I know this is a Mitsubishi forum (duh) but seriously i can get either car (or any other under 25k) and i was wondering what your opinions are, i dont want to make a mistake, i really like the look of the lancer, but the company has had some problems, and it is a little bit under powered, while the spec-v is much more powerful and its a 6 - spd, and i will be getting either in manual. so do i get the more powerful spec-v or the cooler looking gts :liebe011:

As long as you know that a Mitsubishi forum will give you biased opinions :)

Unfortunately, nobody can or should make this decision for you.
Drive both for a bit and see which one "talks to you" in a louder voice. Keep driving until you get an impression for the cars. Ignore the dealer's "a quick spin around the block" crap. You're buying a car from them, you need to know how they act, and they should be bending over backwards to please you.. but don't put too many kilometers on it, in respect for the next guy.

The 8th (or 9th?) generation Lancer hasn't been out for long enough to gain a significant aftermarket following. However, there's a nice enough assortment of parts for the previous generations... so as groundbreaking as this car is supposed to be, I hope we'll see some stuff for it in the next year or two. Who knows.. The Sentra has a lot of aftermarket stuff, though I don't see many of them.

well i was at the nissan dealer today, and the 07 se-r spec-v really impressed me, does it have 200hp? but it definitely made a huge impression on me and i was about set on the lancer and this car shook my expectations. the altima coupe is nice as well, but its more expensive so im not so sure

Well you should be able to make a decent desicion on the GTS based upon what you read in here.

My only complaint about the GTS in the manual is the fact that the car is running at or over 3K when your doing 60. Kinda loud. You know that there may be paint issues, but the overall reliablilty of my Lancer at least has been almost perfect. Only issue I had is with the stock tires pulling to the left & once the dealership gave me new tires...all was good. The overall fit & finish is a little questionable....but as I said...I have never had any issues with the car. Mileage has been awesome. That is one thing that you need to look at when buying the car if it's a concern to you at all. The Lancer only needs regular fuel. Does the Nissan require anything higher? You have to see what the insurance cost of the 2 would be for you. Go under Edmunds.com & you can see what the overall cost of the car will be in like 5 years....see which one has a higher resale value.
I personally like the Nissan....that 4 banger of theirs has power & torque. Plus I don't see many of them at all on the street....I don't see many GTS's either. I also looked at the Nissan, but the dealership was a waste (Orland Park Nissan...they SUCK!) Absolutely useless salespeople there. I could go on...but since they weren't any help....I went down the road & fell in love with the Lancer instead. Had they had one on the floor or even at the dealership...I could be driving the Nissan instead...who knows.
If your going to mod the car in any way.....see what's available 1st & make more of your decision up there. Not a whole lot out there for the Lancer...but enough for now.
IDK...like sordid said....test drive both. DON'T base your decision strictly on power...you know the Nissan has more....but see how the car fits you & for what your going to be using it for. Is 1 trunk bigger than the other.....how about back seat room for your family/friends.....glove box/center counsel big enough.....driving position comfy? Can you actually see out of the car or is there a blind stop......Options on the cars....which one has more goodies?

LOTS to think about.......but you know how we feel about the Lancer. Good car with a few quirks & quality issues....but very reliable. Plus the warranty on the Mitsu should be better as well....something to consider for the long haul.

Spec V has 175HP the R version I believe has the 200HP.......

Does the Nissan have traction control or a stability control system? Alarm.....

just thinking for you here.....you have to be the one to decide....which one rides better? Lancer or the Nissan? All things to consider...........

My dealer let me take mine home with me before I bought it. Ask if thats an option. That way you can really test it out the way you would driving them on a normal basis.

Personally I think the Nissan is ugly as sin. But you will have to make a decision based on what you want.
If anything just make a checklist with pros and cons of both vehicles.

To sixfeetdeep the Nissan SE-R has 176HP i think, The Spec-V is Nissans "Supped" up version of everything the spec v has the 200 hp

now back to nem. I too was just like you i mean just like you it came down to the nissan the mitsu

Personally i test drove the spec v it was a nice little rocket. Then i test drove the lancer es, i was actually extremely impressed about how good the car handled

The Sentra has a smaller trunk to the the V shaped rod in the trunk to give it a stiffer ride.

http://www.revver.com/video/883385/09-mits...-sentra-spec-v/

This is a pretty good video only thing that sucks is they didnt get a manual for the GTS which kind of gave it a disadvantage. IMO the GTS is a better value, i mean the nissan is a nice car but i heard they have problems with their reliability too.. Also insurance is bound to be higher

Basically bang for buck, you cant beat the Lancer

The looks of the lancer are better than the sentra too, Its all about what you want, look good or be fast

You can always get the Ralliart if you want both.

I just prefer the looks of the Lancer & the overall price that I got. Most bang for the buck.

I think the RalliArt is synonymous to the Porsche Boxster syndrome:
It's nice and quicker than a Golf TDI, but the moment a 911 (Evo X) pulls up next to you, you block your face with your hand and not make eye contact.

It's still very nice, but I don't think it's a good fit for the market.

I agree on the Lancers looks. I look at the parking lot security camera here at work, and I love how it just sits there and commands the area.
The funniest thing is I've heard is people who bought the Mazda5 and think the Lancer is ugly...
