Just bought my first 1st gen, love the car, but a little confused. It is a 91 eclipse, 1.8L L4 with 155,000 miles
I just had a quick question about the timing belt if it is a freewheeling belt or not? Can you guys help please? :liebe011:

what do u mean by "freewheeling" if ur wondering if u bend valves if u break ur timing belt the answer is, no u wont bend valves

ya that was the big concern was if it was to break if any valves would have been bended

The proper terms for that are:

non-interference motor = You will NOT bend valves if the belt breakss


Interference motor = You WILL bend valves if the belt breaks.


EDIT: And, 19Talon is right the 4G37 int he 1.8L is a non-interference motor.
