Lately I've noticed that my car has not been illuminating the interior when I open the door anymore. VERY RARELY it will on occasion, but it never does when I need it to. Also, it no longer beeps to tell me the door's open while the key is in the ignition, nor does it beep to tell me my lights are on.

I really don't think it's a blown fuse but then again I haven't checked either. I think it's a relay, because I can still manually turn on the rear view mirror lights.

Any suggestions? (97 Eclipse GS)

There is a small switch (push switch) that activates when you you open the door. It is probably sticky or something. It is somewhere on the door jamb area. Check that to se if it is working right.

That's actually an extremely reasonable and likely response! I'm going to go try that.

Sadly it may be because of my own stupidity. I may have broken this piece when I slammed the door once.

Anyway I'm gonna go see now.

Wow, that was a good help! Thank you!

I tested it and that was it. The weight of my finger on top of the door jamb switch will set it off. However, it's bent a little upward so it doesn't work unless there's a force downward on it. I'm never slamming my door again!

Oh well, only $7.49 to fix it!

I just wish I had $7.49 right now. :( Sucks getting paid biweekly.

Taking donations via PayPal! LOL!

Finally got around to fixing it today. Works like a charm.

Funny thing (but I feel guilty) I drove to AutoZone to pick it up for $7.49.

Handed the girl a $10. She thought it was a $20 and gave me $11.-- back.

I didn't notice til I got home. So, I'm extremely happy that I basically got paid $1 to recieve a free part, but I feel guilty now... I hope her manager takes it easy on her. She was cute. :)

Hell yeah :D

Unfortunately though, in the same AutoZone I saw an extremely butch one with fuzzy hair.

I have nly seen one cute girl at any parts store here in Utah. She only worked there a week or so. :(
On the other hand, she was dumb as a door nail, and didn't have CLUE what the hell she was doing. Must have been the mormon influence. hehe

Well I guess I'm going to go back and see that girl sometime for a new wheel bearing.

The jackass motherfucker at the close AutoZone tried to get me to buy into his service because he's a private mechanic and he could charge me $80 to install the new wheel bearing (hub assembly) I was paying $130 for. Fuck that. I told him I'm capable of doing it myself.

After he said, "Well, you'll be back for another $60 part later, I assure you."

So I replied, "No I won't, you just lost a customer." and walked the fuck out.

Ummm...... I feel ya but, unless you have a press..... I wouldn't try doing it yourself. The wheel bearings are pressed on.
Honestly, $210 is not really that bad for a single wheel bearing. I think I paid about $170 with tax, per side (I know the owner, and he gave me a LITTLE break, he really didn't even make any money off me).
Seriously, check around a bit for a price on it. Besides, if something gets screwed up, guess who pays for it? Not you, the shop does.
Case and point: I had a simple install to do. Install an alignment kit on my rears (to make them adjustable for alignment after lowering with Eibach springs). No big deal. I would have been wrong. I took it to my local trusted mechanic (they are the only people I trust to work on my car, if I am not doing it myself), to have the kit installed, and then aligned.
Good thing I did. A bolt on the ball joint was so rusted, that when he went to take it off, it SNAPPED. They had to drill it out, and tap it, so that it was usable. I would have NOT been able to do that, with out spending extra cash, that I did not have, and my car would have been down for a week. They fixed it all, and did the alignment for the original price I was quoted.
I'm not saying that something like that could happen to you, but, it is something to consider when doing something that requires equipment, or parts, that you may not have, and have to special order.
And bud, please keep in mind, I am not trying to flame you, NOT EVEN CLOSE, I am just trying to help you keep in mind, that some things are better done by a shop, or somebody with the proper equipment.
BTW, that guy at Autozone, if you don't like him, you could get him fired if you called Autozone Corporate. They have a STRICK "no competition" policy for employees. hehe
Let us know what happens. ;)
