A lot of posting has been made regarding the "Service Engine Soon" warning and here's hoping we can have it consolidated here.

Can you guys give out a list of idea when or how this warning would be triggered? reason I asked is that mine has flashed out 3 times already since last Friday (09/19/2008). Per SixFeetDeep's advise, it could be my fuel tank (dealer told me it could be the cap as well) but yesterday after 3 days, same thing happened again.

Btw... I have my car serviced for maintenance just 2 weeks ago.

Check your MAF sensor. If it's unplugged, this will trigger a SES light as well. Plus it will stay on for a while even after you plug it back in.

Forgot to mention, if you had your car serviced 2 weeks ago, check your oil cap to see if it's properly seated and check how much oil you have in your engine too (when the engine is cold, let it sit for 3 hours). Insufficient oil will also trigger the light.

the SES light can be triggered by so many things.

Most auto parts stores will plug in their OBD11 scan tool and give you the DTC's that are triggering the ses light. for free! Usually their scanner can also clear the codes (which will turn off the light)

You can take the codes and look them up online to find which sensors are triggering the light and diagnose from there.

Maybe it is as simple as a vaccum hose?

Well, im just going to throw this in there. But i got the SES light after stalling at a set of lights, after i got going for awhile i stopped at another light and with my foot on the clutch and my other foot on the break the engine was revving at like 4000 without even pressing the gas I turned the car off then turned it back on and the revvs went down. I stopped at the nearest parking lot to check it out and i dont know exactly whats wrong. It is a brand new 09 Lancer GTS with no more than 275 km's on it. I'm thinkin i fucked up the clutch, (id also like to add that this car has been through the pain of me learning to drive standard on it)

Your air intake hose. If you have a leak, the car will trigger a SES light, but that's usually accompanied with a fluctuating idle.

I have a better idea... What have you done to your car?

no mods or whatsoever. Stock all the way. As much as I want to upgrade some parts but for lack of understanding how a engine works I would not dare try it.

Most I would probably do is to bling it (change the fuel cap, add wind deflectors, door sill) =)

its under warranty and if nothing was done.... take it to the dealer. You pay all that money for warranty, you should use it. They will be able to pull the code and tell you exactly whats wrong and then fix it.
