I own a 2006 2.4 automatic Lancer ES Wagon (Sports back). All round its a pretty good car but seriously let down by not having an overdrive on a 4 speed box. This means at 110 Kph (aprox 65Mph) it sits on 3000 rpm, which makes it pretty thirsty. My question is, is this simply an overlook on Mitsubishi's part or should the car be doing something that it isn't. ie drive lock converter not working or something up with the chip. Are there any other 2.4 ES Auto owners out there can you tell me if this is normal?

the 4th speed on your automatic IS an overdrive.
the car is geared low overall. IF you want economy, dont buy the performance version of cars.

if the trans or torque converter was not operating correctly, you would get a "Check engine" light illuminating.

Thanks for the reply Manybrews. It is only the ES so wasn't aware it was the 'performance version'. I know what your saying though, it is nice to put my food down and feel the push in my lower back occasionally, the engine certainly seems to enjoy being over the 3000 rpm mark. Just wish they'd put in a 5th gear for highway cruising like they had on my old Magna. (If your from the states the Magna was an Australian built Mitsubishi, no longer in production).

Cheers.

Scott.

I think the reason Manybrews called it the 'performance version' is because the 2.0L was the stock in the US's ES.

I know that my OZ Rally hovers between 3000-4000 RPM when I start trying to break 95MPH...
