I'm looking at buying a 03 montero. Has 69k miles and some extra options... sunroof, rear A/C and Infinity stereo. I took it for a short test drive the other day and it seemed pretty decent. I drove in 2H and AWD with no problems. Did not have a chance to shift into 4H or 4L. It's got some front bumper damage and the usual scuffs and scratches around the exterior.

What are some known things to look for and check out?? Especially at this mileage... I am not familiar with Mitsus and don't want to make a purchasing mistake!

TIA,
Louie

Its always good to kno if it has service records or regular maintinance things dun already. Also it is VERY important to check the 4H and 4L.

Do a visual inspection underneath. Look at the frunt diffrential, look for leaks frum the case, loose wiring etc. Alsoinspect under the mid chassis , and inspect the transmission pan for scuffs, and the transfer case or leaks and a visual look at the frunt driveshaft.

Inspect the rear diffrential , brakes , check the cam covers to see if there are any leaks , big or small. Check the fluid like engine coolant and oil to make sure they are topped off and also the colour of the engine oil.
