Hey guys,

I am facing a problem in my neck of the woods ( the caribbean) where it is known that the octane level of the fuel is way below what is recommended for vehicles like Pajeros. Mine has a recommended octane level of 95, however, I seriously question whether we have ever had such an octane level in our tanks.

I have been reading up on Acetone as a possible catalyst in achieving the octane level of 95 and up. Has anybody else being doing research on this? Can I trust this in my engine?

Share with me.

Thats yur highest. The premium pretty every where here is 97. It goes 97 premium , 95 or 93 for second grade , depending where yu go and 91 for regular.Acetone , i am not sure. Cause to keep that Pajero at peak performance yu need a descent octane level. low octane or poor octane will cause premature detonation and knock retard

This is what I am trying to avoid, the knock retard. I think we just get the worst of the worse where fuel is concerned. At least, in the more developed countries you have a choice of grades to purchase. Not so for us. We seem to get the fuel residue......lol. The high end vehicles like mine will certainly be affected by the low octane level in the fuel.

Any recommended booster that can be used to correct this situation?

dont yu have local auto parts place that sells octane booster? That would be the best thing i think. There are a couple companies that make octane boosters. Yeah i run 97 or 95 in all my vehicles here, and i add octane booster every moment i get to. I always have run 95-97 on my cars because the 1990 is turbocharged and the other 2, my Triton PLUS and Diamante VR-S are high compression engines and both 3.5 liters

The octane boosters are here. I just thought that something better than the octane boosters being sold in stores were available for use. Can I count on the octane booster to take my fuel from 87 ( which may be what it is at present) to 95?

What method is that gas rated by? What method of rating gas is your vehicle recommending?
http://www.torquecars.com/articles/fuel-octane-ratings.php

If your vehicle says need 95 RON and your pump is say they have 93 (R+M)/2. Then you would be fine.
