hi
ive got a magna TJ executive 2003
its been a while and ive had a few people tell me that changing the auto transmission filter and fluid is pretty basic:
. undo the nut on the sump underneath and drain the old fluid....
. remove all the bolts from the bottom of the sump to reveal the inside of the transmission...
. remove the old filter and put the new one in
. place the sump and all the bolts back on
. add the new fluid

I was planning to use some ramps.

is this the way to do it and is there any tricks that i should know?

is it more complicatied than this?

Also i had my fuel pump replaced by a new mechanic....he said he went over the car with a fine tooth comb and gave it a full lube service....first thing i did was check the air filter only to find bits of string and stuff in there...these things would have easily come out with an air compressor blow out and thats part of a service isnt it???

i confronted the mechanic and he said he blew it out.....

atleast the oil looked cleaner
i wont be going back there again

im wondering where the fuel pump is located so i can check this.

i also have a timing belt change coming up soon and im wondering, after i remove the covering, is this easy to do? do i need some special tool to check the timing?

Hi there. Well , on these models servicing the fluid is not as simple as they make it sound. The older mitsubishi transmissions F4A33 and down , yes yu would remove the drain screw on the sump , if it had one , and drain the transmission fluid and then remove the sump to access the transmission filter. But all Mitsubishi transmissions F4A42 and up the transmission is a completely diffrent design.

I have a post that is labeled Intake and induction , in there i have many service referances and lots of info that will help yu with yur Magna. In there i have timing system break downs and removal/replacment , intake etc. Also transmission.

Depending , which starting in 1996-sum 2001 model mitsubishi transmission ( F4A41/2 and F4A51 (Magna/Diamante) had 2 transmission filters. One is concealed inside the transmission , and the other was on top the transmission and resembled an engine oil filter but was for the transmission, and it screwed in on the top of the transmission , it can be seen by looking down by the radiator hose at the top of the transmission.

Thing is on yur year model transmission the external transmission filter was discontinued ( a flat spot will be on the area of yur transmission where previous models had the extra external transmission filter) So the onlee transmission filter yur model will still have is the one concealed within the transmission case. So the onlee thing yu will be able to do is service the transmission fluid.

On the passenger side of the transmission , near where the cv drive axle goes into the transmission , there is a drain plug there on the bottom side of the transmission to drain the fluid.

The fuel pump can be serviced or inspected easily. Remove the rear lower seat, underneath the seat in the floor will be a service cover, with a harness going thru it. remove the retaining screws and remove the plate to gain access to the top of the fuel tank where the fuel pump can be serviced. Yu will see the fuel lines etc.

But visit my intake and induction post , it has diagrams and service procedures for Diamante/Magna/Verda
