Hey guys, i have an 01 eclipse gt, i havent done anything to the engine of the car just little inside stuff. I was thinking about starting on the performance so would a cold air intake be the first easy thing to do? i dont wanna get to fancy, just simple stuff first. I know K&N is a good cold air intake to buy but how easy is it to install and how??

very simple. should take no more then 1/2 hour. To install you remove the hose clamps holding the stock intake piping, remove the box, remove the MAF sensor. Install your new intake. plug everything in and boom, you just gained .000001 HP and a cool "whoosh" sound.

you wont gain performance on these vehicles without new pistons, and a supercharger/turbocharger.

No offense but that's still not gaining performance. It only feels like it if your car has been running like crap for so long that you forgot what your car's original performance felt like.

As Bob said turbo/supercharger is the best way to improve power, but if you're tight on money you can always start with stuff like upgrading the suspension which is cheaper. You can find small HP gains in a good cat-back exhaust system and a decent set of headers which would serve the dual purpose of getting your engine better prepared for FI if you want to go that route.

Of course you can always read this thread too

No it wont. Because headers are not the same as manifolds.

OK I get the second part, but why will it not? I was under the impression that after Tearstone stopped carrying turbo kits for the 6G72 the most available FI option (without having to do your own fabrication and whatnot) is the RIPP SDS, and you need exhaust headers for that. I figured that made it true for other FI applications too - no?

An exhaust manifold is only needed on turbo cars.

HOWEVER:
It would be better to go out and build your own turbo kit for a 3g eclipse GT because you will end up spending less in the long run. Hence why you need a manifold.
