Anyone have any experience with this code? The scanner says its a manufacturer specific ignition or misfire. I was planning on replacing my coil and spark plug wires and was wondering if I am going to have any luck with this problem doing these things. I know what a bunch of people are going to want to say you should replace your plugs to. Well I have Denso iridiums in my car that only have about 30000 miles on them and when I take them out they look fine. I am hoping that its not my timing belt or my pulleys. I put this engine in my car about 25000 miles ago and before I put it in the car I replaced the belt and inspected my pulleys. The pulleys seemed fine at the time. I have a spare set of pulleys laying around from when I blew up my original engines' pulleys and I will put them in if I have to. Any Ideas?

You could always call the dealer, and ask them if they could tell you what the code means. Maybe you would get lucky.

Wait..... lemme pull a BRM...... IT'S BROKEN DUMB ASS!
Sorry, just had to. hehe

You can check the resistance of each plug wire with a multimeter before you shell out 60$ for a new set. New plugs aren't that expensive, and should be replaced. Other than that gauge your spark to see if your coil is putting out the proper charge. Let us know the results.

Well the local dealer I deal with (can't stand the other one) will tell me that I need to bring it in and have them look at it to tell me whats wrong for approx $80. They will say that they don't know and would have to check it out.

As for the wires they are 4 years old and are going to be replaced anyhow.

Oh I can see that coming from BRM. The problem with that is I know its broken I am trying to figure out whats wrong without having to pay the outrageous prices of the dealership :P.

Ok now I feel like an idiot. I was trying to remember a couple different things after reading it and somehow came up with p1395. In reality its code p1391.

cant you go to autozone or wherever and borrow the OBDII code reader that will actually tell you exactly what the code means?

P1391 is Intermittent Loss Of CMP Or CKP Sensor Signals.

In other words. Check your Crank position sensor. lol

I own the same obdII scanner the the local autozones use to check your car lol.

Ok so I should check the crank Pos sensor. That is disappointing since it was replaced approx 1000 miles before I put this engine in the car and I swapped the new one to this engine.

Keep in mind, on the 420a, there are two Crank position sensors. I believe so atleast. Please, someone correct me if I am wrong.

I only know of 1 but then again I could be wrong to. I think I am going to take my cam sensor off the car and take it to autozone and see if it is what is going bad. From what i have read it could be either the cam or the crank sensor. Since it is cheaper and probably the original one I hope it is my problem.

Drives: 1996 Talon AWD. Built, but no longer drives: 1997 mitsubishi eclipse RS; 1990 Talon AWD; 1995 Talon AWD, 1997 Talon AWD. Seems like a pattern

420a has ONE crank sensor near the oil filter housing and a cam sensor on,, I think,, the intake cam

Well I replaced my cam sensor today and the only thing that is different is the CEL didn't come back on. I guess next weekend when I have some money I will have to replace the crank pos. sensor again.
