I can't believe I have to replace my whole hub assembly now! It's going to be easy to do, but it's quite a bit more expensive than I expected to pay. Apparently you can't just buy the bearing, unless you plan on getting some machine work done to the hub (more labor money!).

This is to cure the overheating driver's side front wheel, the skiddish attitude of the car on smooth roads, the constant smell of burning carbon at high speed, and the extremely loud humming.

So, as soon as I get my next paycheck I'm going to buy two new hub assemblies and install them, and photo-document it all for the site. They say to replace hubs two at a time, because more often than not, the passenger side one would go out the next day after fixing the driver's side...lol

Uhhhh.......... that sounds a little weird to me, but, ok.
I had my wheel bearings replaced, one at a time, and ONLY the bearings. I hope you know, the bearings are pressed on, and unless you have a press, I wouldn't try to do it yourself.
No machine work was needed. I don't know who you talked to, but honestly, it sounds like they are filling you full of some serious shit.
Just my opinion of course.

you can do the work yourself yes, but the bearings WILL have to be done by a shop as stated above. Yeah I know it sucks but honestly it will be ok. Yes I would also recommend doing both sides at once. I think I paid $40 for each bearing to be pressed for mine.

Drives: 1996 Talon AWD. Built, but no longer drives: 1997 mitsubishi eclipse RS; 1990 Talon AWD; 1995 Talon AWD, 1997 Talon AWD. Seems like a pattern

^ that's what I would do also. they are bolt on, but you don't need to do both. just do the one that is bad

I'm hoping that fixing this bearing will also fix the pulling issue when the wheel is straight. At least I can tell if I need an alignment after I do this.

I hate to ask such a dumb question, but does the hub assembly have 3 or 4 bolts on it? I got one from autozone with 3 bolts, and my dad insists the real thing has 4.

EDIT: Scratch that, apparently the guy gave me the rear hub. I wanted the front so I went and exchanged it.

Now I'm going to replace the hub tomorrow. How long do you think it'll take, and how difficult on a scale 1-10?
