Hi guys, ok im a female, 21, and know nothing about cars. I bought a used Spyder but have a few issues to fix before i start driving it.

1)Ok so at first my battery seemed to be fine, despite the battery icon shown lit on the dashboard. One day I went to go check it out(because thats how i am when i buy something new, cant leave it alone lol) and i noticed none of the lights came on, and it wouldn't start. I have been looking around online and concluded that it could be a dead battery that just needs to be replaced and/or the cable that conncets it. It does seem to be a little rusty if u will. My friend tried to jump it but it would only cut on for a few seconds then shut bakc off, so Im guessing its the battery? Anywho, I want to know before i waste money buying a brand new battery only to find out its something else

2)My horn doesnt work nor does the part on the dashboard that displays the date and time etc...I was told it is most likely a fuse?

3)When i purchased the car, the radio was missing(weird i know). It also has cut wires, so im not even sure if it will work or not. I recently purshaed an in dash kit and a stock radio w/ infinity to put back in there, however, i thought i would jus have to push the radio and kit in and viola, but it is not fitting? Do i have to like remove something to install it? or take it to professionals? and what are those wires that are cut? WIll it play or do i need other stuff? It looks like a bundle of red wires were cut and another set of multicolored wires have ben cut as well.

I hope i came off clear...I have picture of you guys need a better understanding of what im talking about...thanks alot! :)

get a battery, check the alternator. Most likely the alternator is dead since the battery light on the dash came on. As far as the radio goes, thats a whole other mess. Hope someone can help ya with that. On the + side, enjoy the new spyder.

You bought a car that has been broken into... not good.

Your battery cables, battery, and alternator all need to be rplaced most likely. Take it to autozone or someplace and have them run a code check for you.

The horn wiring was probably cut by the theft party to avoid the car alarm that you have stock.

Your stock radio was cut out because they ran out of time to pull it correctly. Look carefully at the surround of the CD player, it is probably damaged in some way or another. It is gonna be a bitch to wire this new stereo with those wires cut.

More details:

As of today since my battery is being all dead or whatever, I cant start the car so its just sitting there. Im hoping someone can jump it enough so i can take it dwn the street to autozone, or maybe just have it towed there? Anywho, i test drove it and everything before so it drives fine and everything, everything lights up on the dash except the part where the time goes, and that damn horn. When I first gave it test drives, the little battery icon would always be lit and also the "service engine soon" icon. I havent had a chance to have it professional looked at since it wont cut on so i can move it. A friend told me that since the wires are still connected it will still b able to hook a radio up to it, but im not sure because they are perfectly cut, so i dont know.

I priced a new battery at autozone which is pretty cheap, but how much am i looking to shell out for the alternator?

Last week my friend tried to jump my battery but it just cut on and then shut right back off :(

so now i just have a dead, radioless, hornless car just sitting in the lot :(

well i'm not sure exactly what all of the red wires are (someones custom wiring?) but if you can get the power cables hooked up you can still use a head unit because that big black plug is what is acutally hooked up to the speakers, it has to be adapted to RCA plugs but it will definatly work. As to figure out whats wrong wiht the horn and clock you need to get a voltmeter and a schematic haha (or let a garage do it) and find where the wire break is/the bad fuse. It takes time and practice.

Those red wires are there probably because the previous owner put in an aftermarket radio and instead of rewiring the black plug (that is odd if its for the speakers/amp. From my experiences (with both stock and after market units) normally they are used for a cd player/changer), they wired up the speakers direct.

Isnt the clock display also the radio display? If the precious owner put in a after market head unit they could have disabled it somehow.

Depends on the speaker/headunit combo you get. Some speakers sound better with an amp, but there are some speakers that sound the best when you have a headunit only powering them. It all depends on how many watts your headunit does per channel and how much the RMS on your speakers is.

:00000732: to our forum!

Buy a battery, and instal it! Or have a close relative do it! Its very easy to do, then drive the car to a mechanic to change ur alternator if it HAS to be changed, and let him check the radio, if he cannot fix it, just drive to a electronic store for car radios and have them fix it. so you want have to pay a billion dollars for towing
