year: 1994
make: Mitsuibuishi
model: 3000 GT
mileage:174,000 original
trans type: Manual
recent maintenance:????
recent modifications:????
other modifications:???

Hey guys excuse my "NOOB" questions...but I need help with quite a few things...

I just picked up a 1994 3000 Gt on a trade.. and ive always wanted one of these cars.. ever since I saw one...

I got the car from a young Kid who didn't respect or appreciate the car much... and he had stuff done to it by people that didn't know much about what they were doing and its just honestly ragged out..

I don't know much about the history of the car.. I do know that supposidly the motor in the car only has 90k original miles, and the tranny only around 50k..
but it def could use a lil tlc.. It is in driveable condition right now with not real major problems that I see... it is missing a few parts such as the hood struts, 2 bolts on the manifold... a few interior bolts, the sun roof got busted, and some of the latches and interior parts are missing....

A few problems that the car has that I would like to fix asside form the missing pieces is....

The battery light stays on all the time.. but the car seems to start up no problem..

The steering wheel has a bad vibration in it..
the whole car vibrates ..
the motor sounds solid and doesn't make any ticks
but when it is put in to gear the tranny makes a very slight ticking noise (or at least that is what it sounds like its coming from)...

The suspension seems wore out...

the car idle is fine when sitting still with clutch disengaged.. but while the car is rolling idle goes from 1k and drops, and shoots up to 1k and drops and keeps doing it until I come to a stop or I start driving the car... someone suggested its the egr valve that is bad.. but im not sure if thats it..

and i really don't want to start replacing parts that don't need to be replaced....

I guess any suggestions or advice would be helpful.. I have tried to be as detalied as I can.. although I know that without you guys seeing the car that you can't answer a lot of these questions..

It also seems like at times that the steering is too stiff.. and its almost impossible to go at a slow speed in first gear... cause the gas pedal is super stiff... and there is no barley pushing it in...

I don't know if that is normal for these cars or not..

I need help locating a service manual so when i do start working on it I will know what im looking at and how to do it properly...

I just want to get the car to a point that I know it is a good mechanical running car before I go sinking money into making the interior, exterior look better.

here's what you need to do first off

since the car has high milage, you need to inspect the timing belt. and if it needs to be replaced then you need to replace the waterpump too.

check the belt then get back.

You can download the service manual here - see the pinned section (above).

Yea - definetly check the timing belt if there is no record of it being changed. See my post "beat to heck 93..." to see what happens if you don't!

shocks and struts...or coilovers ;)

check steering fluid. Actually, check all the fluids.
Depending on what you're coming from, 3k's can have very touchy gas pedals. You'll get used to it. You might try just lubing it up though.
Like other's suggested, check the t-belt.

I highly suggest bringing the car to a midas or the such which has free inspections and they will tell you EVERYTHING that is wrong with the car. Then come back here tell us the news and we can walk you through how to do the stuff.

Well new development.. the car jumps out of reverse and has also jumped out of 4th gear once also.....

I am going to try and locate a midas around me... and see if I can get that done....

I will most likely to be on the safe side to go ahead and do the 60k mile service myself..... the car has no kind of maitence records at all so just to be on the safe side....

I did notice on a general insepction that the accesory drive belt, and main drive belt were both shot... and one was holding on by almost a thread literally.. I have already got those belts and I have the front tire off and removed the belts that were on the car...

something else someone told me that it sounds like my fuel system needs to be flushed out and cleaned with injection cleaner...

probably to be on the safe side I plan on next week doing the 60k service, change out spark plugs, ... change out all the fluids... have the tires checked to make sure they are balanced...

I am still trying to locate a replacement sunroof for reasonable price...

but when I find out more form midas I will let you guys know whats up..

just run some seafoam threw it. change the plugs and wires (best to do them both at the same time) after you seafoam, change your fuel filter. and to inspect your timing belt, take it off. flip it inside out and bend the belt, any cracks will show. if they do, swap it out. and if it needs to be changed so does the water pump.

if you need help on hte seafoam just ask. its uber easy.

I highly discourage the use of seafoam.

lol.. I don't know what sea foam is?...

but anyway I just got a brainfart on the idle problems.. if my mass airflow sensor went bad would that cause my car to do the strange idle?...

as stated before it is only when the car is rolling... and clutch is not engaged.. while sitting dead stop it goes away.. and engine runs just fine while driving...

good news is i located me a sunroof in perfect condition for 100.00

I fixed a spot on my valve cover with jb weld and worked great....

got a new power antenna on the way (was also bad)....

still have not done the timing belt yet... although im not really driving it other than to test it anyway..\ :gunsmilie:

I put nothing other than oil in my crank case. Gum and grime sometimes hold engines together Use good oil with regular oil changes and you won't have a problem.
