you're best bet is to search, read the FAQ topic in the pinned area, and buy a chilton's or haynes manual. there are procedures in those that will show you exactly how to do it.

Do NOT rebuild this engine if you do not have to! No one builds them better than Mitsu, so your requibild will not be as good. If you have to, rebuild/replace the head.

even if you throw a rod your telling me to go to the dealer to have it fix..... do you know how much that would cost. and for that price i can have a high performance engine and it can handle double what stock can.

start with the valve cover and work downwards lol.

im sure you can take off an intake, exhaust exhaust manifold and etc etc etc.... i do believe the head bolts use a alan wrench key to loosen or tighten the bolts.

Also, BE SURE TO LABEL EVERYTHING! That way there is no confusion when putting it back together.

It's a PITA just so you know. Just make sure you give yourself basically the whole day to do it and make sure you have all the tools that you're gonna need. I strongly suggest you buy yourself either a haynes, chilton, or (the smartest thing IMO) the manual from the actual mitsubishi dealership but it's not cheap. If you've never taken apart a motor it would be a good idea for you to either A. read more before you attempt this or B. get a friend that knows what he's doing come along and help you out. AND MAKE SURE YOU DON'T BREAK ANY BOLTS OFF INTO THE BLOCK LOL

well no one else really said it, but really if you cant take off the head and need to ask, I really wouldnt try it unless you really have the time on your hands. Also, it is required to have another DD so you can have the time for parts orders and whatnot. I mean you wanna really do it, then do it, but Im just giving you a heads up.

Mitsu factory and Mitsu mechanics are two very different things... :)

How many "built" motor have you seen driven past 200k? Or even past 100k?

If you are looking to make over 500-600hp, you do not have a choice and must rebuild, but for lower HP applications you are better off with a factory stock bottom end (assuming that it has reasonable mileage).

agreed, VERY differnt.

not many "built" motors are driven economically or as a DD. they are spanked on and the reason they don't last that long. the closest I came with one that I built was 96k. dead on 96660 the timing belt popped and that was all she wrote. The reason I remember the mileage is because of the 666 in the middle was kinda creepy
