Hi to all!
This is my 1’st post in Outlander / Airtrek topic.
My name's Robban and I live in Sweden.

I've just bought a Outlander Turbo 2005, I’ve had it for a week now.

I'm interested if anyone of you in here has heard about if some motor-tuning is to be available soon?
As I understand Mitsubishi has fitted a de-tuned version of the Lancer Evo VIII's 4G63 2.0-liter, DOHC, in-line four-cylinder turbo engine, so my thought was, it can’t be so hard to get the de-tuned HP’s back…?

Well, let me know if you have any tips on that one, I’ll let you know if I find something on my own.

So, I did the break in according to http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
I did the first oil & filter change after 90 Km. (the oil was really black) and I used 10 w 40 Petroleum Car Oil for the break in period and I’ll still use that oil for the first 2000 Km. After that I’ll use synthetic oil.

The car runs like a bullet and of course it have been drinking some gasoline, the first refuelling I did = 46 litres / 270 Km = 1,7 litres/10 Km.

This is a really fun car to drive and it is my first 4-wheel drive, I couldn’t believe what a grip it gave on the snow, outstanding!

Now I’m waiting for some tuning stuff to be released to it, it has 202 HP now but I don’t think it will be so expensive to gain at least 30-40 HP extra, I’ll let you know when this is done.

BTW, please read this: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
And give me your opinions, I found it to be VERY interesting and totally against my belief!! I’ve just used that model to break in my new car, so far so good, it has been runned for 410 KM by now and it runs better and better!

Best regards to you all, have a nice week. /Robban
(please excuse my bad English, it’s been 25 years since my schooldays ;-))

Yesterday I changed to summer tires and tested the speed of this thirsty beast.

So, I took it for a hard test on the freeway and it runs GOOD, the speedometer was not enough when driving it in a long light downhill, the needle past 240 km/h onwards to 250 km/h and on flat road I pushed it up to 230 km/h so it goes even faster then what the factory says.

0-100 km/h was always under 8 seconds, but that’s +/- a few 10’th of a sec though I timed it myself. (7,7sec factory)

But be aware if your interesting of buying the turbo version, it IS thirsty, this last gas-fill I’ve driven about 200 km to and from work (city driving) and about 80 km when testing the performance with summer tires and the consumption was 1,89L./10Km that IS thirsty AND expensive, in any case for me who lives in Sweden where the gas costs 15U$/10 litres 98Oct.
But OTOH, if you can afford the gas it is a really fun car to drive and superb when there’s snow outside (4WD).

Feel free to ask me anything about this car, I pop in here on occasion.

Have a nice summer to you all, I’ll come back and write as soon as I lay my hands on some good tuning stuff for this vehicle, I’d like about 30-50 HP’s more.
Best regards /Robban

Edit: Now 1450 km and 1,67 L./10 km, still very thirsty...

Hi, I'm curious as to the difference between the Outlander Turbo and the Airtrek Turbo.

The Airtrek Turbo kicks out 240 HP but you say the Outlander Turbo only kicks out 200?

What's the difference?

That's about the going rate over here.

All of the JDM Airtrek Turbos have the 5 speed INVECS II - how about yours?

5-speed stick shift (ordinary manuel gearbox)
I'd love to have the one you've got ;)

You know, before I bought this car I had prommise myself that I buy the next car with Automatic gear /tip-tronic/step-tronic .(semi- automatic) 40 years old and tired of shifting gears
But I'm sorry to say, I got hooked when testing this car B)

I've always had manual gearboxes but I wanted the Airtrek Turbo and you don't get a choice.

Most of the time I just put it in D but sometimes I use the sequential shift (although the steering wheel buttons are not much use)

OK Thx for your input :)

I read in the other topic and I understand that there's both + & - with car models in different countries, I can guarantee you that we don't have a speed limiter here in Sweden ;)

>>So, I took it for a hard test on the freeway and it runs GOOD, the speedometer was not enough when driving it in a long light downhill, the needle past 240 km/h onwards to 250 km/h and on flat road I pushed it up to 230 km/h so it goes even faster then what the factory says.<<

hi Robban

I'm also in Sweden, and just ordered an Outlander Turbo. :57:

Took a couple of test drives in Silver one, but ended up going for a Black one. I know the maintenance that comes with that. :crying:

I just hope they can manage the promised delivery date at the end of June. I really wanted a EVO VIII but realised it would attract too much attention parked on the street, so the Outlander turbo was a more descrete choice not to mention more power than I need.

What radio system and accessories did you order with yours? I skipped the radio completely and will install something aftermarker.

Please PM me if you want, it could be nice to keep in touch since we're from Sweden the both of us, to share experiences and tuning tips Etc.
Just leave you email address.

Have a nice weekend, I will, cold beers on the way

PS. Yesterday I did my second Oil/Filter change after 2450 KM, This time I did put in Mobile1 5-50 synthetic oil, I did my first Oil/Filter change aftre 90 KM and the brake in totally after motomans tips (http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm)
Follow his tips and you won't be sorry ;)

Hi TURBO MITSU!

Well, the car does rocket true the corners, the gearbox works OK (a 4 of 5) and the brakes are impressive!

Overall, the car is a joy to run, both practical and fun.

The only negative I have to say about it is that it is THIRSTY! Now I have drove it 2800KM and the total average is 15 litres / 100 Km, that’s a bit high I think.

Can you stand the gas costs, buy it, it IS a really useful car, both for the family and for yourself, and the 4WD is VERY nice in bad (snowy) weather.

Thank You !

If u use the car under 3500RPM ( under the turbo boost ) how big is the fuel consuption, and the car can go normally under this RPM ?
Will u or Did u make any engine tuning ? If every thing is true the diferences beetween the the EVO IX engine and the Outlander turbo engine is the Intercooler size and the ECU.

Hi!
My wife did drive it easy on the country road for about 260 Km. she drove it very gently and the fuel was 0,83/10Km. so it is possible to drive it "light".

I will make an engine tuning as soon as there is any release for it.

>>If every thing is true the diferences beetween the the EVO IX engine and the Outlander turbo engine is the Intercooler size and the ECU.<<

Nope, it is NOT the same as Evo9, it is the same as Evo8, with smaller turbo, smaller injection nozzles, and a different cylinder gasket (I'm not sure on the English word here, but it is the gasket "on the top") :innocent:

Hi !

Ooohh yes i know it bad, it has the EVO8 engine
What kind of octane number petrol do u use ? 98 or 95 ? The factory said so 98 is the best, but does it work normally with out problem with 95 ?

what do u think about the engine tuning, what is the limit horsepower which is right for the engine durative ? Now i think on set up bigger turbo boost, new exhaust system ( maybe without catalyst ) and with a cold air intake ( with K&N filter ), and a new BOV. do u know anybody who made any engine tuning on the Oulander turbo ? I think i will buy a turbo Outlander :D

what kind of summer tyres on the car ? Did u installe any HIFI in the car, or u have the factory system ?

Hi!
Well, I use 98 octane, they say it MAY run on 95 but only if there’s an emergency.
If I can help it I’ll never use 95 Oct.

Depending on how much money you want to spend on tuning I think you can get about 300 HP and the engine/transmission will be totally OK, but OTOH, I think that special tuning companies will release a kit that will give an extra 30-50 HP for a reasonably price, 1000-1500 €uro.
So far I don’t know about anyone that have tuned their Outlander turbo yet, I’ve been in contact with approximately 30 companies involved in tuning, only ONE have said the they actively are working with a kit for this car and it is a company in Stockholm, Sweden.
I’ve been looking for some other options like: Boost coooler http://www.turbotuning.net/E/index.htm
and Boost controller http://www.turbosmart.com.au/boost_control_electronic.htm
But I feel the safest way is to wait until there’s a adapted kit from one of the tuning companies, I’ve also been in contact with EcuTek but they only said: look in on our site in a few month, maybe we’ll make something for the Outlander.
But of course, if you buy both these two from the links above you’ll probably get 50-80 HP for about 1300€uro but then there’s fitting and adjustments a.s.o. and that’s probably best done by someone who really knows…

I think that the first 40-80 HP will be rather "cheap" to reach, it is when you want more that the cost will be painful...

Winter tires: Bridgestone Noranza 205/16/55 (I think)
Summer tires: Yokohama Geolandar GO35 215/17/55

I did put in my own stereo but I used the factory installed speakers, they are really good!
I also installed a VDO Dayton GPS-NAV and Webasto parking heater Etc.

P.S.
I’ve also noticed a few times the fuel cut has kicked in when accelerating hard, that’s annoying…
