The bearing inside your gearbox is making sounds. That`s one of the reasons I took my gearbox apart few days ago. Anyway, do not use heavy oil in your transmission. Use lighter oil because it will provide better lubrification of the bearings on lower (and higher) temperatures. I attached a picture of the bearing (bearing from my tranny), so you can see what does it look like, and what is causing those noises...

I was running the thinner oil at first(85-90). Then I figured I would try the thicker oil to try to preload them so to speak. But nontheless its got to come apart. I would do it myself but I got my "old school" 48 ford truck apart in my shop. This is not my motor but its close to what mine looks like going into it. I know its not mitsu but I like anything that goes fast and looks cool.

QUOTE(eclipsed4utoo @ Mar 31 2005, 12:05 PM) wow....very nice. twin-screw supercharger?
Its a stage 4 8-71 its running 25 psi of boost with intercooler. Its a 572 CID, running on alky about 1500 hp  :offtopic: Well... the tranny is apart there was .002 play on the throwout bearing. I'm not sure if there is 2 different shaft sizes?, but it looked excactly like the one I replaced. 2nd gear had a slight grind in it when put under load. The is a shaft in there that is factory assembled. The trans shop guy said the sound is likey coming from there. THe cost of just that shaft is just under what it would cost for a remanufactured trans. So here my choices: 1. Put new bearing is the rest of the trans and new thrrowout bearing and hope its not that shaft. $900 2. Get a reman tranny and new throwout bearing and know for a fact that its fixed. $1300 I think I will spend the extra $$$ and know its fixed right the first time. Cause if I do #1 and it does not fix it then out that money and still have to do #2.

I can feel a big price tag comming, but the problem as i see it is your throwout bearing! I also have a mazda Miata (same style clutch) It made a crazy noise like yours and after replacing the clutch and baering it was gone. I replace the clutch only because it had to be removed to get to the bearing. so if your shop if digging into your transmission, they are wasting time and your money! :57:
