I'm planning on buying a new muffler tomorrow just for the sound, and possibly (hopefully) to reduce the back pressure a bit.

I need a few suggestions, and no, I am not willing to spend any more than $40 on this.

I am mostly interested in the inexpensive ones I've heard about and I wonder if they sound any good on the car. If anyone can give some feedback that'd be great.

So, to sum this all up, I'm looking for suggestions, on which kind of mufflers sound good that I can purchase at AUTOZONE (not the internet).

Do glasspack mufflers sound good on the Eclipse?
How about Cherrybomb?
Flowtech?
Hooker Headers?

PS - This one question didn't deserve a new topic, but are high flow cat's off eBay any good? Are they legal?

so...if you add in the speeding ticket and you could have bought a better muffler online for the same price

Well there's no point paying extra for a performance muffler on a car that isn't ever going over 70 again.

Lol.. If I could only count the number of speeding tickets I have gotten. I have a bad habit of driving by "feeling" not by the speed limit. lol but it is not like I go 100 I am still rather conservative.

Hey jimmy how did you go about installing your cherrybomb?

My damn muffler is welded right to the exhaust pipe, which curves up and over the axle.

Speaking of which, I bet the back pressure issue would be a whole lot better if the pipes were straight out back.

cut the old one off right at the pipe going into the stock one, and then drove the car with out a muffler out to my dads shop and welded the new one in its place and used that metel belt stuff with all the holes in it to hold it up.

kind of a redneck job but it sounds great.

So, uhh... Could I just use muffler clamps to stick it back on there, and find an unorthodox way to suspend it?

Was your exhaust pipe 2.5 inch diameter?

I dont know how good the muffler clamps would work, i personally think welding it would work so much better and easier.

and about the size of the pipe i dont remember exactly, but i think that sounds about right.
