I'm wanting to buy a fiberglass evo x style hood and spoiler, but I also want them color matched (I'm not real big on the carbon fiber look). I would honestly like to do this myself if at all possible, but I want it done right over all else. I've researched doing this and it seems that matching the color depends on many things such as temperature, humidity, etc. none of which I have the ability to control. So does anybody know of a way that I can do this myself or can tell me what a decent price would be to get this done professionally. Thanks.

unless you absolutely know what your doing when it comes to paint/primer/clear coat, have someone else do it. and DONT do it outside. do it in a well ventilated area free of any free floating debris that could stick to it.

What color is the car? Some colors are harder to match. Also, how old is the car? Is it garage kept? Red for example is very difficult to match because it fades easy. Even if its only a few months old, if its kept outside, it will have started to fade, which may not be noticable just by looking at it, but if you put on a hood that is freshly painted, it won't match. Also, if its not sprayed in a booth, it WILL get dust and contaminants in the paint, which means you will need to pay more to have the parts buffed out. On top of that, a decent spray gun will cost you about what it would cost to have it done! All in all, it is much better to have it done. If you find a good shop, they should be able to do it for the price of paint plus standard labor. (Maybe about $400-$500).

Hope this helps and good luck!

It's octane blue and two months old. I kept it in a garage for the first month, but haven't been able to since. From what you guys are saying it looks like I'm going to get it done professionally although at 4-500 dollars I will need to save up some more :P Thanks for the help.

colormatching involves "blending" the paint into the rest of the car. Usually the adjoining panels are partially painted to help the slight color differences be barely noticeable.

So its alot more work than simply painting the replacement panels and installing. No matter how good you are, there will be a color difference, however slight.

Also tons of prep work with sanding, primer, more sanding, multi stages of color, clear coat. Your quality of materials, tools and work environment plays a big part in how the finished product will turn out.

good choice on having it done professionally. and not by maaco or earl scheib either!

I have nothing against carbon fiber at all and I agree that it can look pretty good with the blue, but it's just not the look that I want for this car. I'll keep everybody posted on what I do though. Thanks for the help.

Man that looks so sick. Carbon fiber doesn't fit every car but I think that particular style/carbon fiber gives it such an agressive look.
