So today I decided to clean my throttle body. Took a little bit of time but I got it out and cleaned it and made it shine quite nice. After I re-installed it I turned the car on.
It instantly revved to 3000 RPM then idled at 2000 RPM. No where close to what it used to do. And now the cars idle speed is much faster. I am practically riding the brakes in parking lots.
I am throwing no codes related to it and I attached everything as they were before. I even got a new gasket and a new vacuum tube.

It only revs to 3000 and idles at 2000 when in park and neutral. A guy at an auto zone said something may have happened to the TPS or the IAC when I disconnected them or when I connected them. Any one know what could be going on?

Thanks

Sounds like it is probably your IAC to me. I am having the SAME problem, just not as bad.
Check all your vacuum lines too.
Also, check to make sure you got your throttle body on right.
Did you replace the gasket? Each time you remove the throttle body the gasket has to be replaced.

Gasket was replaced. As well as the vacuum hose. If it is the IAC how would I go about fixing that?

I have the repair manual and it says to check it with an ohm meter. I will do that tomorrow but if it is bad the manual says to replace the IAC motor. The manual only illustrates the turbo so I cant figure out how this IAC motor works or really even where it is. I figure its behind the intake manifold. Hopefully I will be able to figure it out.

Any tips on where to buy a new IAC? I found for $41 bucks at auto zone.
Also could it be the IAC motor connector?

The IAC motor is bolted onto your throttle body in back, just under the TPS. Just unbolt the old one and bolt on the new one.

Make sure your throttle cable was reinstalled properly. If its binding or misrouted It could be holding your throttle body open more then it needs to be.

Oh, I didn't even disconnect my IAC. The trick is not to get water inside it. Which isn't that hard anyway.

That's why I didn't include it in the tutorial.

I didn't remove the IAC I just disconnected the wire from the throttle body in order to take the throttle body out. I am going to a junk yard on monday. Think I can find an IAC there? And is it really bad to have my car idling so high? Any negative effects?

And I just got new ones not to long ago =/
I only dive about 5 miles a day in it so I should be alright.
Think a junk yard car will have an IAC in it? And the talon has the exact same one right?

If that is your problem a talon esi, eclipse gs/rs, or a 2.0L avenger would all have the same one.

EDIT: You will burn more fuel also.

You can also use a Jeep throttle body, and actually have increased performance.

I don't know how this helps, but it felt appropriate.

That Jeep TB conversion looks nice. I haven't read it all, but will when I get home.
Have you done it? If so was it pretty easy? How long did it take? How is it working?

Drives: 1996 Talon AWD. Built, but no longer drives: 1997 mitsubishi eclipse RS; 1990 Talon AWD; 1995 Talon AWD, 1997 Talon AWD. Seems like a pattern

double check to make sure that you have your throttle cable adjusted correctly and that it's completely snapped back into the throttle body. also check to make sure that there isn't anything keeping the throttle from closing the whole way, sometimes that hard plastic EGR vacuum line gets caught and holds the throttle open a little bit.

I myself haven't done it but I'm greatly considering it.

Also just a word of advice, this will save you a pain in the ass, but try to reconnect the throttle cable before mounting the throttle body again. Trying to put the cable on after the throttle body in a pain in the ass and you'll need another person to hold the throttle open for you while you insert the cable.
