Hello!

I just bought a second hand 1999 Pajero Evolution with a 3.5L Mivec engine from a private owner. The car was well maintained.
45000km. I drove it 200 km and the engine is severly damage. Vibration, noise, blue smoke, huge drop of power, oil and water leak. The car is now at the official dealer's workshop in Dubai. They're asking me more then half the price I paid for the car to repair it. (+/- 7000 USD)
Do I have another solution like engine swap if we find one?
Sorry I know little about mechanics.
Thank you in advance.

Ocram

Welcome to the club.

Engine swap is definitly on the cards but like you indicated you have to find one first. Many owners in your predicament import a clip from Japan for the swap mostly because they need engine harness, ECU and other bits because they are installing a different type engine. I don't know what is available in your area and your mechanic should have some clues to what is possible and associated costs.

I'll copy your question into the relevent section as some other Pajero owners (like myself) may have ideas for you.

Hope that this is of some help.

Jim

Also yu can check engine locaters of Thailand , which we have the same things as Japan as for there was the Major plant besides one in Japan1978 thru 2002. There are many 6G74 3.5 short blocks to choose frum.

Hoping the cylinder heads themselves just need to be reworked, as in seals for the valve stems and guides etc , and then basically yull just need a 6G74 Bottom end and drop the GDI MIVEC heads on the new short block

Does yur models have SOCH or DOCH MIVEC heads?

Depending on which , sum minor diffrences between the standard 6G74 Bottom end to DOCH and DOCH MIVEC were the oil pumps put out more pressure and the pistons were flat or flat and slightly raised for higher compression .

Most Pajero Evolutions , Pajero SR-Z and sports sub models that did not come with DOCH heads but with SOCH MIVEC had a standard 6G74 Block , pistons , oil pump etc. So if its a SOCH MIVEC , Yu can use a standard 6G74 bottom end , which should be sourcable in the UAE , and reuse yur original MIVEC heads. In all else cases a standard SR and SZ Pajero with DOCH heads were just a 6G74 block with Mitsubishi GTO non MIVEC DOCH heads , and SR-Z had GTO MIVEC DOCH heads
