Just out of curiosity...

For all you DIYers out there who do engine builds on your own (mostly I'm asking non-professional), how did you learn/who did you learn from? Former job as a mechanic, hanging out at your mechanic's garage, friends, shop class, technical school... I'm interested in hearing stories and some differing viewpoints

I learned from my father and husband. Started small and worked my way up. My first engine swap was a 2.5 from an acclaim into an 86 Lebaron.
After that it was pretty much repairing what broke on my lemon and then all the junkers after that...
