I am about to purchase an evo mr. It is listed at the dealer as an 06 mr. However I noticed it looks like an 05 to me, which is a huge deal to me. It has an evo viii bumper along with the evo viii enkei wheels. But the engine top says mivec (not sure if that was offered on the viii and ix). Carfax report checks out, saying that it's an 06. I'm gonna call and get to the bottom of it, but salesmen are never truthful.

Run the vin.

Sales people are usually misinformed from the management or just don't know.

The MR's had BBS wheels, not the enkei. It was probably listed incorrectly due to the badging on the trunk that the previous owner put on.

There are many variables but bring it to their attention and if it checks out they should bring the price to a normal level. If not walk away.

This is a common mistake a used car comes in badged as something else and gets listed incorrectly.

We had a acura rsx come in with a type s badge on it. So we paid a little more at auction got it back and we were like uhh no... the S's didn't come in auto.

If you go to an established dealership and are slightly knowledgable there is a high chance you will not be taken for or lied to. Pushy sales is a thing of the past with the internet.

My suggestion call them and ask.

I've been in to talk to them. I have a feeling that you're right about rebadging, but how would they get a different vin? The carfax report says the car is an 06.

And I drove the sti, hated it, felt sluggish in the shifting and steering.

Weird. MIVEC wasn't offered in the VIII, and if that car is an 06 it must be an Evo IV.

Everything about the car says Evo 8... except the engine (cover). I'm not sure why an Evo IX owner would ever put Evo 8 parts on his car, but maybe test drive it to see whether or not the MIVEC switches over. There's definitely something shady about that car.

Eh, he could have wrecked it and just got a cheap price on the VIII body parts, doesn't explain the seats though.... What does the inside of the door stay?
