if you read my thread about syncromesh transmission fluid, then you know there wasnt much fluid in the trans when we drained it. ever since ive filled it up, ive been keeping an eye out for leaks, and i think ive found one, but i cant be sure if its a leak of if the trans/transfer case is just venting excess fluid. ive found a very small amount of fluid on the transfer case. ive been keeping an eye under my car for oil spots, but i never find any. every time i clean off the substance on the trans case though, theres always a little that appears after i drive around. the attached pic is the best one i could find of the transfer case. the yellow line is where the fluid is, and the dot is where its actually dripping from. so, someone tell me, does it sound like im jumping at shadows, or is there something that would actually leak trans fluid in that area?

Drives: 1996 Talon AWD. Built, but no longer drives: 1997 mitsubishi eclipse RS; 1990 Talon AWD; 1995 Talon AWD, 1997 Talon AWD. Seems like a pattern

it could be leaking from the output shaft seal and running down to the low spot (yellow dot) and then dripping off.

I cured my transfercase leak by removing the drive line tail shaft and having the
stamped steel end plug tig welded in place.
the dealerships will replace the transfer case or seal under the national recall but they fail to actually fix the culprit.

You can squirt some silicon in the tail shaft end but it doesn't last long a year or 2 and it removes the needed end play in the drive line which then puts a load on the carrier bearing support.

The Yoke is cast then final machined then they press the stamped back into place apparently they didn't seal them so the fluid when hot runs out the end of the tailshaft.

You may notice some splatter on the underside of the car but no drips on the ground

It took 2 under warranty and a third out of my pocket to figure out where the real transfer case problem lies:(
