My 2.8 dl Pajero yr 2000 is in superb nick and has done only 40,000 miles (genuine); but I cannot engage low gear ratio. It's fine engaging 4 WD High but no matter how I try I cannot get Low ratio - is there a special technique? I really am not stupid but I am beginning to feel that I am missing something obvious. Is this a common problem - the vehicle (I have had it for 18 months) is just brilliant in all other respects.
Help?
Thanks
Nigel H

Sorry if this is too obvious, but is the car at a dead stop? 4H can be engaged in motion; 4L can not.

Problem solved.
Thanks for your reply. Our local 'bush' mechanic here in Lawra (Upper West Region of Ghana) has solved the problem. There is a shim/spacer under the low ratio gear lever that had worn (even though it has never been used in low ratio). The mechanic concocted a shim/spacer from some heavy duty rubber and it works perfectly now.

Regards
Nigel
