I no that any CAI that fits an 08 lancer will work on the new 2.4l 09's but was wondering if anyone made one that is specifically only for the 2.4l 09. Also in your guys opinions who makes the best CAI?

Pretty much every 08 part works fine for the 09, so there's no need for a 09-specific part. The only differences would be flashes, possibly piggy backs, and maybe the RRM turbo. Intakes, pulleys, shifters, aesthetics (which are in the eye of the beholder I guess), springs, sway bars, and lug nuts -- all the same.

they won't make one specifically for the 09 b/c theres no need. CAIs are based on the dimensions of the pipe and configuration to make it fit. Since the motors are the same dimensions, it will fit. So even if it says 08 its gonna work for the 09

Is there a difference in the sound that a CAI makes over a SRI. Couldn't find a video. Anyway anyone can try to explain the difference in sound if there is one.

Hello all, I shall lurk no moar and share some info with you all. I've been surfing these boards for the past few weeks leeching info on what mods to pick up for my lancer. Started with the injen CAI. I found that the part listed as SP1835a is specific for the 2009 lancer 2.4L. (sp1835 is for the '08)

I placed my order through www.injenairintakes.com around 2:30 pm with standard shipping and literally recieved it less than 24 hours after order. (they are in san diego, i am in orange county, ca). All I gotta say is WOW thats some quick shipping!

So back on topic, the install instructions seemed to be for an '08 lancer anyways. There was mentioning of moving an oil cooler or something along those lines for GTS models... I have a GTS and had to move nothing. Anyways these two part listings are exactly the same, '08, '09, it does not matter.

Oh and I just followed the advice of so many on here and popped the little plastic clips off the wheel well and under the front bumper, rather than removing the whole bumper... VERY EASY!

Anyways, Injen CAI is the way to go. Sounds great, decent boost in power in the top end, and im getting about 3mpg better on average on the highway. Saving up for the Greddy Ti-C now... :gunsmilie:

Glad to hear everything is going well for you so far. I'll be getting this or the AEM pretty soon. BTW, moving oil cooler is for the CVT model only, sounds like you have the 5sp.

Also, welcome

Yeah I purchased it from the site listed in my previous post... ;)

www.injenairintakes.com

Cant link the specific product, but its fairly simple to punch through to get to. You can also google "sp1835a" if you want to find more listings.

Ah that makes sense ENG... I thought it said specifically for GTS model. However, I was installing it with a flashlight in the dark.

lol I'm a total idiot for not seeing that. I was in a hurry earlier and guess I missed it. Had a couple other questions though,

I read on there site that it adds an agressive sound to the engine at higher rpms, what about at lower rpms, does it sound the same as stock or ???

I have also read that you get slower starts with the CAI but make up for that later. Is it noticeably slower off the start.

Also is there is a difference in the sound that a CAI makes over a SRI? Can way you can explain it?

Thanks

Well I cant say for the SRI how it sounds on this ride but I would imagine its a similar sound... check youtube?

CAI sounds completely stock in normal driving and under light load. Even if you're a late shifter and let it rev up a bit (without punching the gas) it sounds pretty stock. Its when you put your foot into it (thus opening up the throttle body) that you hear the beast within... it really growls.

I didnt notice much of a loss at all in the bottom.. infact all around the car runs alot smoother. Tell me if im wrong but i think it actually smooths out the jumpy powerband this car is notorious for.

Use the search feature... I think most of this has been discussed... back to work :ninja:

No.

Answer

Since there is no PHYSICAL difference between the 2.0L and the 2.4L (aside from displacement), there is no need to make 2.4L specific parts. RRM does this as a marketing ploy. Don't fall for it.

End of discussion.
