I am not sure what is wrong here. I have a 2000 Eclipse GT with a 5-speed tranny. Ive been told it could be the clutch but I am not sure. Here is my problem. As I am driving down the road in lets say 3rd gear running at about 2000 RPM's, I punch the gas a good bit. The RPM gauge goes from 2000 to about 3000 and almost seems like I am spinning out (which I know I'm not) and then its fine. Whenever I stop at a stop sign and then start again, it seems fine. There is plenty of bite when letting the clutch out and that is why I think it can't be that. Any ideas on what could be wrong? The car has 76000 miles on it so thats why I am wondering. Called one of the Mitsubishi dealers. They told me to put a new one in, it would cost somewhere around 1000. I was thinking about buying a clutch from SummitRacing.com so I know it is a good one and then having a local mechanic put it in. Good idea or not?

With 76000 miles it's not a bad idea to replace the clutch. But then again if you treat your car good like I do, I still have the original clutch in my car and I have 92000 miles on it. But unless it is going bad, which it doesn't sound like it is the way you describe the symptoms, I'd leave it alone and look for other possibilities of this problem.

Yes, your clutch is going bad. It will get worse and worse until it goes out. On my 3g, it would rev all the way to about 4500 until it would finally grab.

Get it replaced before you run out of time and it blows on your way to work/school.

its bad, its slipping, get a stage 1 clutch if you beat on your car, itll take the abuse better then a stock one. Get it done, the sooner the better or it will go out when you least expect it.
