I have some bad lower ball joints in my 1996 Galant. I have purchased 2 lower ball joints and 2 outer tie rod ends. Do the upper ball joints have as many problems as the lower ones? My manual shows 4 ball joints on the lower side. I purchased 2 and no one really seems to know about the other 2. Anyone have info on these?

On the lower frunt suspension setup . There are 4 . There is the main control arm , which basically is just straight , and the trailing lower control arm , also has a ball joint , but its usually just sold as the complete trailing arm and ball joint. I have included a picture of the breakdown

The upper ball joint does carry it's own set of problems and like mines, if the rubber boot is damaged and water is introduced into it.

The resulting mess is the ball joint (dries) out and can create a horrible screeching sound when steering. I had that problem and it was unbearable. Put in the new part and i was good to go.

Galants typically have 6 ball joint assemblies for the front....If you change the bottom.i suggest you change the top.
