In an effort to help out with high gas prices and stressful economic times WORKS has released a new Eco Flash for the 2008-2009 Mitsubishi Lancer.

Designed for people who want better gas mileage without changing their driving habits, this flash modifies air/fuel ratios in open loop as well as acceleration enrichment to improve fuel economy roughly 20%. As an added bonus this flash will give a gain of around 5 horsepower to the wheels (tested using 91 octane). This flash is compatible with 87 octane fuel as well as higher grades; it is also compatible with modifications including our WORKS Drop-in Filter and Axle Back exhaust. Price is $149

Note: The Eco Flash does not modify closed loop mode, it does modify tip-in acceleration and Open Loop.

Interesting Concept... Any major Problems in development????

Also wondering about Warranty... This would probably void it???

what kind of results have you noticed? 20% is a big improvement, almost 6 mpg at 28 mpg avg. Kind of a dumb question but can you provide more information on how to install etc?

I'd like to see some figures as well.

As for the install bit, you need to take out your car's ECU, overnight it to Works, they flash it for you, send it back, you pop it back in, and you are good to go.

Unfortunately, you will be without a car for a day or two... unless you live in the area, then you can drive in and they can do it lickity split.

SixFeetDeep would LOVE this mod. 20% on his 40MPG average... that's another 8 MPG. Stand aside Prius!

As mentioned above, the flash simply involves sending us your ecu, we flash it and send it back to you. If you overnight it both ways it means your car is only off the road for a day or two. The ECU is in the engine bay and quite easy to remove.

As far as results go, the 20% figure is based on results from our in house vehicle and beta testers. It is also based on normal driving. Obviously "normal" is a subjective term, but we are basically saying that folks who are hypermilers or trying hard to get the best mileage they can won't benefit as much as people who just get in their car and drive without directly thinking about MPG all the time. Unfortunately our 40mpg lancer friend would likely see less of an increase (although it would still be an increase) in fuel mileage since he sounds like he keeps his foot off the gas pedal quite a bit, while people who drive normally, accelerating hard on to freeways and moderately away from lights stop sigs etc.. would benefit more, and people who drive their cars down right hard and fast would probably see the biggest improvement from the flash.

Hope this helps a bit.

Touche...

Would you get a bigger MPG gain using a higher or lower octane fuel?

Will it be possible to switch between both the ECO flash and the performance flash without sending in the ECU? Of course both would have ot be purchased, but it would give the driver the ultimate control based on what they were using the car for at the time. Sorry if this is an ignorant question, but I know very little about flashes and would like some info for future reference. Thanks.

I'll have to ask our engineers about the octane question. My guess is that there wouldn't be a huge difference in the mileage, but the power gain would be different; probably not much of a power gain on 87. But let me get an engineer to give me a real response before taking my word for it.

As for the multiple flash switch. This is not an option at this time. However the engineers are working on a solution for this, and when and if it is released as a product I will certainly post it to this board.

Aw Willy.....you'd be proud of me....I've reverted back to my old ways of driving.
I'm pretty hard on it & normally do around 70 to well above that...(gotta keep it under triple digits....oops!!!! on my trip home. A very far cry from my normal 55-60  I turned into Popeye with my granny style driving....."That's alls I can stands....I can't stands no more! Out pops the can of spinich & I stand on the gas....quite a bit. I'm now in the mid to upper 20's overall  Aaaagggaaaaaagaaaaaagaaaaaahh
I'm interested in this tune for sure....but being without the car for almost a week or more is not going to work right now. Plus I am not driving any of my other cars....they are put away..... Plus I'm not overnighting this......costs WAY too much for that....even though this tune would be worth it.
