hi ive a space star petrol 1.3
and both passenger and driver electric windows go down but wont go back up
if they fully go down to the bottom they both try to go up and jerk as if they are trying to come up
ive checked the switches and they are ok and also the wireing
ive had both units out from the car and test them they seem ok but when put back in they do the same thing
if i put a cable tie round the top steel actuating wire and pull it side ways whilst selecting up i can get the passenger side to work everytime from bottom position
its as if i take the slack out of the wire it works ok
however tried this on the drivers side and it didnt work if i dab the drivers side switch then actuate the switch as normal then i can get it to come up
ive noticed the motor has a coil of steel wire which is wound around a pully and this leaves the motor on either side and there is a spring plunger type device on each exit through which the wire goes and only one is pulled in depending on its direction in the fault condition one will go in then straight back out again
its as if its sensing an obstuction
its doing my head in as ive had a mechanic look at it and he cant see why either
are there switches in the motor unit or is it a case of the window channels gone stiff and offering too much resistance to the motor ive tried lubricating the channels with silicone spray but its made no differance
i didnt want to undo the motor unit and have springs fly out in all directions
any help appreciated please
as im frightened to use the windows when im out and about

anyone know if you can take the slack out of the wires and if its that that causes the problem
ill be having another look tomorrow if its not raining again and see if i can narrow it down a bit to either slack wires or a window channel problem.

right here goes

i had another go at both windows today
stripped out the electric mechanism
lifted glass to top and wedged it up
got a smalll paint brush that would fit in the glass channel and cut the bristles back to make it stiffer
got a tin of normal grease and some wd 40 type lubricating spray
mixed 50% grease and spray to make a sloppy grease mix librially painted this mix into the glass channels and made sure it went in deep not just on the edge
take your time dont rush this
make sure you do all the channel even the tricky bit to get to near the top parts inside the door move the window down and do the remaining window channels
also do in the cross apperature which the window comes out from
move the window by hand up and down the channel reapply the grease mix again
use the same grease mix over all the moving parts of the mechanism wires springs ect
i also removed the small circuit board unit from the moter assy its held in by 2 small torx screws and you need to cut away a small part of the motor mounting lug to gain access to the second screw once the screws are out gently pry the end off and the circuit board and motor connector will come out it just pulls out
check for bad joints mine had none and then i pushed the board in and out a few times carefully to make a good motor connection
when the board comes out at the end where the motor connects are 2 hall effect transistors which obviously sense up and down pulses i wiped them over with clean rag reassembled this to the motor lifted the window again and wedged it in place
refitted the motor assy refitted the window glass and powered up
well to my surprise it now works so with this success i did the same to the other side and well that works now aswell each side took about 2.5 hrs to do i dont work fast but it was worth spending the extra time
hope this helps others with the same problem
ordinary grease is probably too sticky so the wd spray slurry seems better
hope it lasts

I've had same problem, I am not expert in the mechanisms but what i did was to spray WD 40 lavishly both with windows down and up.
