I would check the following things: - check the plugs to make sure they are gapped properly and not fouled out - do a compression test to all 4 cylinders - have the fuel system pressure tested - make sure you have no plug wire arching, start it up and night, pop the hood in the dark, look for blue spark - check your egr valve. if the valve is stuck open, the car will just run a lil bit hotter and can lead to false readings from your upstream oxygen sensor. if the valve is stuck closed it will idle really rough and almost stall, not sure if this is your case or not.
