i want to know what the cheapest way to go about buying a automotive spray gun might be. some people have told me an Electric HVLP spray gun would be the absolute lowest cost for me, but my question is. at what working pressure do i need for automotive paint for a electric gun? or is that just a dumb idea? should i just buy a air compressor and buy a cheap gravity fed sprayer nozzle or what? i'd really appreciate the help if you have any, thanks.

by the way i am looking to start practicing painting on a POS junked car of mine so i can get a feel before i ever screw around with a nice car.

thanks for the link, i read the entire thread and was baffled at all the info it offered. also i am now completely confused as each poster spoke about this gun or that gun, yet had no link to it. what i really need is a decent link to some nice guns to get me an idea as to how much its going to cost me to get one. i may look up on craigslist.com to find a decent used gun just to save me time and effort that way i will know that it has been used to paint cars. i am new to painting cars, however, i am not necessarily new to painting. in fact i used to work for home depot for the paint department so i know a few things about paint, i just know little about sprayers. what i need to know is what would be the least expensive sprayer to get a decent paint job done on my car. i am looking to sand down the annoying dover white pearl paint (looks like my car is dirty even after a car wash) on my car and get just regular dual stage white. no 3 stage white crap.

Well that thread kinda gives you the idea of the range of opinions out there on what gun is good or whatnot. I am by no means a professional, just an occasional diy'er who has some basic knowledge and skills. I use a 600 dollar HVLP gun and it works fantastic. Beyond that I could not give you a recommendation, and I've a feeling you are looking for something cheaper...not the say it's not possible to do it cheaper since several on that forum tend to believe so. I'd say look around more before investing in anything. A better quality paint gun you actually are gonna use is going to be a ton better than a cheap one that is useless.

You know you can always rent a bad ass air compressor and spray gun. It would probably be a much better idea to do so rather then spending the money on some ebay or wal-mart equipment. As for info i know eastwood is pretty good for someone wanting to paint there own car. My GS is gonna be under the gun as well as soon as i decide what im gonna do cosmeticly. I'v also been gathering up parts for a GST conversion so it should be alot more fun when finnished.

yeah go gravity HVLP, siphons are junk and have a crappy transfer rate. Most states wont even allow siphons anyway but im sure you could find a cheap devilbiss HVLP gun online for under $300 but its also good to learn on good equipment so if you got the money id go with sata jet
