Thought it would be appropriate to post this & have it stuck to the top of the page for everyone to find quickly....since winter is coming very soon!

I know that there is a few posts on who has bought what....& how they like them...
but by posting it here....it's just easier for everyone.

So what did you buy?

Where did you buy them & for how much?

How are they in the snow?

How are they holding up?

How many miles do you have on them?

You know the deal....

-$849.50 CAN total including 4 steel rims, mounted and balanced, tax and shipping incl.

Rear tracks really well, It takes actual effort to get the car to slide and keep sliding. Grabs great in snow and slush when stopping. Possibly the best winter tire I've had on any car to date.

600km/s on them so far

I installed 205/55 R16 General Altimax Arctic's on new winter steel rims. Installed and balance for around $900.

So far they are working well. They track well through curves in the snow and only a minimal amount of spin from a stop.

I have to ask, I want to get the rims and tires that you have on my GTS for the winter. My question is do you have a problem with any low tire pressure warnings or anything for having a 16" rim on the car? I dont see a reason why I cant change out my 18s for 16s just for the winter, besides the slight MPH change. Its so much cheaper to buy 16s than 18s and I can keep the winters on thier own rims every year.

Yes, you will have to hold the info button down for 3 seconds each time you start the car. The warning is always there. You get used to it.

The change in speed with the size tires I have is almost negligible (0.7%), so don't worry about that.

I do get a warning light on my dash, and it says service required until I push the button, and then it comes on again when the doors open etc... Its a pain in the ass, but since the steel rims don't support the TPMS, my choice was go for 16 inch alloys for 2x as much, and if you slide into a curb its probably not going to be repairable so replacement only.

What did you buy?
Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 215/45/18

Where did you buy them and for how much?
- Discount Tire
- About $800, including tax, mounting and balancing

How are they in the snow?
Meh. They track reasonably well, but turning can be a bit dicey. Losing the rear end is very rare. Getting the car to actually go where you're steering it can be a different matter.

They do really well on ice, though.

How are they holding up?
So far, so good. I haven't noticed any serious treadwear, and the ride is decent. You don't really notice they're snow tires all that often.

How many miles do you have on them?
About 3,500. I put them on in November, drove from Detroit to Chicago, and commute about 85 miles a day.

Sweet, we've the same tires.
There's 2 snow storms so far in Boston, and these tires are performing very well. I have no problem driving in the back road when the road is not plowed. I also have no problem driving up hill either. Great tires so far!

I did notice that my mileage dropped a little (or maybe I'm just driving faster these days). Did you notice that?

Just pieced together a used set of 16" steelies and tires for the upcoming winter

Tires:

Nokian Hakkepallitta (or something spelled similar) studded snow tires 215/55/16

used two seasons lots of life left.

cost: $120

Wheels:

Generic steel 16X6" 35mm offset (yes they clear the GTS calipers easily)

Cost: $40

aftermarket 16" wheel covers

cost $15

Mounting and balancing done myself in my mechanic shop

Savings: $$$$$$$

No TPMS sensor (not useable on steel rims)

No report on performance yet, will update later this year when we (hopefully) get some snow
