Ok so i have a problem wiith my 03 lancer, not even sure if this is the right forum to post in but here we go. My AC knob that turns from hot to cold will only turn like half way to heat and half way to cold. I'm not sure what to do about this problem? i know theres a cord but i'm know trying to mess anything up by taking it apart without some sorta guide. Also not trying to goto a shop b/c that will be cost for something i could prolly do myself will a little bit of instruction from someone with an experience or thought behind this. I am clueless on this problem. I am also cold driving around lol. any help?? Thanks -Chris

hey. i have the same exact problem as you do. on the driver's side, where the pedals are, there will be a white looking dial i guess you can call it. when you turn the knob you can feel this dial moving along with it, but not much. if you are trying to turn it to a/c, if i remember correctly, you pull it towards you. if you are trying to change it to heat you push. if these do not work for you reverse them. this was the only solution i came up with when i was looking at it a while back. i was not going to bring it to a shop to fix something that i can still maneuver and make work, just a little bit harder.

I don't personally have this problem, though I know that know sometimes sticks for me when I want to turn it past those points.

What'd I'd recomend is that you pull the knob off (should simply slide off with a little effort) and look to see if there is anything blocking it from turning. Perhaps even try switching it with the knob that selects which vents are open (they are the same size and such) and see if its the knob itself or if its the arm that actually selects the cold/heat levels...

well i've takin the knobs off, but to not avail, i got nothing... :-( . I'm thinking about taking my radio/ac console apart and checking the wire in it to see if its twisted or caught up on something. I cant try pushing or pulling on it because it only turns left or right on a circular dial. hm i'm gonna work on it tomorrow hopefully depending on how drunk i get tonight haha. you all know how that goes.

a known issue.

first fix is to replace the heater linkage with new, updated componants.

if the issue persists, the heater box will probably need replacement due to wear, but thats unlikely. 99 percent get along fine with the new linkage.

Well , first you have to remove the knobs (fan and heat knobs) you should find two screws , remove those .... then look at the top of the box below the ac control knobs ( sometimes that box comes equipped with a disk changer ) you should find another two screws , remove those to ... now you can remove the plastic frame to uncover the a/c electrical circuit behind that plastic frame , remove the stereo head unit , and you should see the problem , try it yourself from here .... SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

the linkage is on the side of the HVAC box, and requires nothing to be removed other than the 2 plastic cam/linkage pieces themselves.
