Just purchased a used 2003 Outlander. The dealer gave us two remote key fobs but only one worked. I fiqured it was just the battery so I just put in a new one but it still does not work. I then noticed that the two fobs are not alike. Close but not the same.

Is there a quick way to program this fob? I have searched the web but could only find a place that wanted $20 for this information.

I just want to see if I can program it before I bring it all the way back to the dealer and argue with him!

Other than that, the wife is loving her new wheels.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know the procedure, but it often includes opening the door, pressing lock, closing the door, pressing open, or operating the lock switch manually. The key needs to be in when doing this.

I'm sorry I'm not in cahoots with a shop that will freely divulge the "secret" process.

Thanks for the response. Like I said, I found a place online that will sell me the instructions but I am not even sure that this remote is going to work so I'd rather not pay the $15 to find out it won't work.

I went through something simular to this last year with my remote for my VW but there were a lot of places online where I found out how to program it. Guess that Mitsubishi's are not as popular.

you need to ground the data link connector under the dash and push the hazard switch 6 times to enter program mode but if the remote is not the same it probably wont ever work.

Hi:

Where exactly is the "Data Link Connector"?

I bought an extra remote that came with programming instructions, but it doesn't describe where the DLC is.

Can you describe exactly where it is? The instructions say it's "in the driver's side faschia". There are no pictures.

Thanks.

I can email you the instructions I received, but I still don't know where the Data Link Connector is.

Start at the brake pedal and look for the steering column. Follow the steering column up from the floor by the brake pedal all the way up to where the dash starts. You will see a cluster of wires taped together relatively close to the fuse box. Get your head under the dash farther if you cannot see it. You will now look for a wire with a white receptacle the branches off of it... nothing is plugged in to it, this will be what you are looking for. If you do not see it, tug gently on the wires and you will see one of them is fairly loose, that is the wire with the connector...it will look like you plug computer equipment into it. If you still cannot find it, go to AutoZone and ask them to show you where they plug in the testers to diagnose a Check Engine Light and that will be the same location you need. Hope this helps :)

Thanks, I found it! The damn thing is just dangling there. That seems pretty cheap on Mitsu's part. Usually the data ports are permanently mounted somewhere.

Now, you don't happen to know which pin is which, do you? LOL

Thanks again.

sorry, that I am unsure of. Maybe the dealer can assist you with that... just call them and ask.

In your case the easiest thing to do is call the dealer and ask, or go there and ask them....they shouldnt charge you anything and they are very knowedgable and helpful...unlike many of car companies dealerships
