G'Day to all out there!

I'm new to this "Forum" stuff. The only one I know is what the Romans built (ha ha).

Anyway, I have a 1990 CA Lancer Hatch with a 4G15 auto (please don't laugh).
I like auto as I drive around town a lot and hate changing gears (even though I do use the auto like a manual).

I am debating whether to modify the 4G15 (mild cam, mild head work, larger plenium, higher compression, balance etc......

I already have extractors, K&N filter in box, cold air intake. It looks cool with 15"rims, 2.5" lowered, Pedders springs & shocks, CB GSR Bodykit.

Will my "Magna" auto cope with extra power? How much power do u think I can get out of a 4G15?

Should I just swap with 4G91 or 93? Did they come as an auto or will my auto work with these engines (I have been told it will be a bitch to work out).

Trying to avoid South Australian rego/insurance/police issues.

Looking for a 4G15 Guru. Need more speed!

All and any help is greatly appreciated.

:(

hi! i used to have a 4g15 (manual) on my cb. i wanted to modify the thing for more power so i asked around for options and ideas on how i could go about it...
on my list of mods were rpw's qtb kit plus headworks, cams, etc. it would've been a "screamer" with the induction sound coming from those individual throttle bodies AND it would've been really practical for track use or autocross... BUT the qtb kit and all the other mods were REALLY expensive.

so i ended up swapping a 4g93 turbo in it and it actually came out cheaper! with the amount i spent i would have only gained something like 20-30hp max if i stuck to my 4g15. now i've got 200horses! i don't know how much engines are in australia but before you spend your money maybe you shoul first ask what your ultimate goal is  if you want a modest increase in power using the 4g15 then go for it, but if eventually you think you'd still want more then maybe a swap is in order.

just sharing my thoughts! :D

regarding the auto tranny, from what i know only the 4g9x series gearboxes can be mated to 4g9x engines. on the other hand the 4g6x series engines can be mated to 4g1x gearboxes. (please correct me if i'm wrong)

Thanks for ur reply Advan :D

All good, sound advice. I think I might see how far I can go with the 4G15.

RPW in West Oz reckon they can help me out with some stage1 mods which shouldn't upset the ECU or the auto tranny too much. If idling gets too rough then they say I can buy a Greddy "piggyback" computer, but might not even be necessary if I keep it mild.

I'm going to try some of the MAF mods some of the guys have tried with a spare MAF (so I can put the orig back on if any issues). The car goes OK with what I have done so far but if I can get 20kW more (don't know what that is in HP), then I will be happy. I think I can achieve this realistically with mild mods.

I'll keep u posted on how I go ;)

Cheers from the Land of Oz :)

Hey Lancer owners of the world!

I keep getting told not to mod the 4G15 as it will be hard to maintain and tune??

People are telling me that the 4G15 8v EFI TB cannot be moddified as the "stepper motor" will not handle it

Is there another TB that will bolt on without having to change the ECU/wiring etc..?

Will the 12v head go on it? Looking at one I notice that the dizzy is on the other end of the cam   Also I think I heard that the inlet design is different shape (although I think the exhaust was same as 8v).

What about fitting the 8v carby cylinders? I read that they give better compression. Will it all work though?

My idea was to do a very mild head/cam, balance the bottom end and fit larger TB. Does anyone know if this is possible and if I will require an aftermarket ECU?

All help is greatly appreciated.
