You might think Im dumb as a bag of hammers for suggesting this but I cant help it. Why couldnt I have a toyota 6 cyl or 4 cyl engine (type S Corrolla) put in the 3KGT and the rear end changed. Then I will get rwd with toy reliability.
Basically look at the dimensions of all but a v6 would be nice and straight would make it easily serviceable.

The real reason?
Like all of you my wife and I like the body style and think its sweet!
This car is cool but I already have a Mitsubishi HDTV platinum 55".
I think this mitsu engine and tranny are going to be responsible for me bending over at the service shops.
I dont freakin like it.

Surely someone has thought of this.
Help me out here guys.
Is this a wet dream or what ?

Hey BE. This may not be too much help, but I remember growing up and reading the hot-rod magazines the way other kids read comix and sports mags. I distinctly remember a lot of articles on swaps. I'll bet if you picked up a foreign-car performance mag at the supermarket (I know there's a lot of 'em nowadays) and looked in the back where the ads are for aftermarket parts, you'll find some swap-kits, manuals on what fits what, or at least some leads on getting more info. Good luck!

uuuhhhhh to drop a new engine into the GT would be hard it is all to possible a rear end would cost you way to much and well depending on engine it would cost you, to make a Corrolla type S engine set for RWD would be difficult and make and cost you more then 10years of work on the car, i recommand that you go get a han's manual to work on your car if you don't wanna cost a lot and maybe invest 200 in tools and you should be all good. hope that helped :57:

I dont mind paying for reliability. However, more experience with the car will tell me if I should do it. I like the body style (only an idiot wouldnt) but front wheel drive sux to me except in the snow. Im in redneckville Georgia so it dont matter much to me. I thank both of you guys for your input.
Turning a wrench isnt going to happen with me.
Tell me now, If I cant have it tuned up, timing chain replaced, new brakes, radiator flush, and a few other maintenace items done and then drive for 50k miles with no issues.

IS THIS SCEANARIO LIKELY?

oOOPS! Corolla is a fwd car isnt it? Even better. I know that engine transmission is reliable. maybe drop a new one in?

Took mY 3kgt to Carmax today. Mitsu tech works there that has been a tech since 1983. Engine runs strong and smooth.
Can someone give me the scoop on the ignition coil with power transisitor.
Is using a cheaper after market ok?
Everything works but tech says burn marks on coil.
Old school people say dont fix it if it isnt broke.
Some might say on the mitsu do as the tech says.
Opinions?

a few points i'd like to make:
1.those engines do not have the torque to pull even the base model 3k which comes in at around 3400 lbs.
2.mitsu engines are hella reliable, my buddies 3k has 170k on it still runnin strong and mine has like 85k dirven HARD and still kickin
3.if anything for a cheaper and still reliable swap why dont u find a VR4 shortblock and trans with the AWD.
4.My personal choice would be to do option 3 if u r a manual OR find the AWD auto out of a european 3k which would be a great way of advancing the auto platform. I'm currently trying to get my hands on the AWD auto right now.

U bought a mitsu man! stay with it I'm sure you will love it more than ANY other swaps u can find

I just got rid of my supra and it was not very reliable . These cars have the inline 6 cyl engine and they are notorious for blowing head gaskets , which ruins the bottom half of the engine . I have a 3000gt sl and trust me - your better off with the mitsubishi 6

lemme say this now mitsu is realible but the Supra TT is way faster and plus high end powerhouse cars like supra or VR-4 blow lots of stuff b/c of the engine and its probly been raced in the past plain and simple don't swap anything and i mean anything into a 3kgt unless its either bigger or more powerful i.e. RB26DETT, uhhh supra engine would work VR-4 engine all those would work with some modifications but the VR-4 would be the best and easiest

As far as reliability, If you keep it stock, and treat it like any other car it will be very reliable. 60k maintnenace is expensive. Body work is expensive. Also, the Twin Turbo variety is such a rarity that the typical mitsu mechanic doesn't know the first thing about working on them. Thus they see a problem they don't have experience with, and become "part changing monkeys" and that can get very expensive until they find the problem.

Also if your not into turning wrenches a conversion is gonna be big $$$ and when your original mechanic leaves town you'll have a hard time with your frankenstien'd car.

Supra's are not that much faster. that's not quite the truth.
