my friend just got a 2003 lancer. 2.0L not a evo. just a regular old lancer. i am confused on what bypass module i would need.....if i need one at all. i have put lots of them in other cars and the bypass module that is said is needed for this car requires a key to be stuck in the box to sence the code on the key which i have done before on other vehicles. the problem is that the key isn't programed. he went to the hardware store and got a key made and it worked so why would it need the keep a key in the bypass module?? is it only the evos that have a programed key? would this vehicle even =need a bypass module for the remote starter then? or is it a different one that doesn't require a key in it? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you will be fine with the key. I don't think that 2003 lancers had the chipped keys. I know my 2001 eclipse did, but I had 2 non original keys for mine and never had issues. the eclipse would start but die without the OEM key.

What you will need to bypass (if its a manual tranny) Is the clutch sensor. If your in an auto I think no mod is necessary, but if you have a manual don't forget to leave it in neutral or your car will try to drive away.

One time when I replaced my starter in a Chevy luv, I reconnected the negative terminal to the battery and it fired up and stared cruising down the block.
