Alright people here it is, all the info for our latest project car.
This entire kit is built around an Evo 8 16G turbo, we wanted to prove how much power you could get without having to switch to a more expensive T3 setup and have to build pretty much all new custom parts.
Most of the parts you need for a 16G setup can be bought at our store, the rest you can find used on the forums, such as the turbo or intercooler piping.
We have a "build your own turbo kit" page setup to help get you started:
BUILD YOUR OWN TURBO KITThis lists all the parts needed to get your custom 16G turbo kit up an running on your Lancer. It's the perfect place to get started and will answer a lot of the major questions people have when thinking about building their own kit.
Our primary aim of this entire project was to show that building your own turbo kit CAN be done on a budget. You don't have to spend $5,000 just to get a basic kit going. Also we wanted to show what the 4G94 platform can really do given the right parts and upgrades. A lot of people think 300hp is this ridiculous number that only the Gods can achieve, but using this lancer as an example you can see with the right parts it can be done by anyone who's willing to put in the effort.
Granted Robert put in a LOT of work, and spent a fair amount of cash on this build, but he is like most of you lancer owners, a young guy looking to do the best he can with what he has.
Here is a full list of parts and the pricing on them that we used for this build:
LINKTurbo InfoA stock Evo 8 16G turbo was used as the core of this kit, they are cheap and easy to find. Robert paid $500 for his but you can find them used on the forums even cheaper. Along with our Speed Corps exhaust manifold and modified 3" Evo Megan Downpipe, fitment was perfect and the potential for making high power without the risk of something falling apart was great.
We can all agree in stock form the 4G94 engine is quite pathetic. Bolt-on's don't work and running boost on stock internals is risky when you try to up the power. So the first thing we wanted to do was beef up the engine. A set of Wiseco Pistons, Pauter Connecting Rods, ARP Heads studs and plenty more were installed right away. We had originally planed to use our own K1 rods, however due to some paper work mix ups they got delayed and we had to take the already available Pauter rods.
With a rebuilt engine and low compression pistons the boost could safely be raised to a respectable 20PSI producing a total of 339WHP with a dyno sheet to prove it:
DYNO SHEETThis build was a lot of work for Robert and I can't go into ALL the details of his build, but believe me it was a lot of work on his part. Thankfully with the support of Speed Corps he was able to see it to completion and produce the highest power Lancer in EvoM history!
