Ok so i want to get my car painted Blue. I went down to the local Paint/collision repair shop and they quoted me about $2400(this was with my other eclipse Cracked side skirts and dented hood). So i was thinking if i prepped it myself(this includes sanding, filling, primer) how much do you think i could save?

$2400 is fuckin cheap, so I really question the quality they were going to give you. As far as savings, not much. Any shop with half a brain will not accept a car "prepped" by the customer as the outcome and warranty of the paintjob is based on the quality of the prepwork. Piss poor prep will result in a shitty product, regardless how well the paintwork is actually done.

If you know how to do the prep work to the extent of a professional, go out and buy a nice spray gun and paint the car yourself. I'm in high school and know at least 4 kids that own their own spray booth or can set up a temporary one.
You could find someone locally to do it for you for much cheaper.

If you do plan on painting it, prep work is EVERYTHING. You can't screw up a paint job itself too easily. And even if you get orange peel, you can always wet sand and repaint or just polish.

even if you prime all the spots that need to be primed(filled areas, bare metal etc.) you could sand down the whole car with 320 until it starts cutting into your basecoat then sand the primer down too and ask them to just spray the blue and clear coat. Need any more advice id be glad to help so either post back on here or PM me
