So,

I took my Expo on the first road trip after intalling the new engine. Everthing worked great, The milage was great too, close to 30 mpg when is impressive for a 2.4 L.

This mording I stated the car and drove for a block and the engine light came on. I immediatly pulled over and checked the engine oil.

I was ALL GONE !!! Not a drip on the dip stick.

So I refilled it agine, and it seems fine.

I've been driving in town this last month and didnt notice the engine loosing oil.

In my road trip we avarage 65 MPH and for abour 60-70 miles I was doing above 75 mph. Toatal trip was about 550 miles.

Is it possible I'm loosing engine oil in high raves?

If so why? What should I do next?

after fitting a new or rebuilt motor they do use some oil
till the oil carbon ring at the top of the cylinder is created at the head gasket

if the oil useage is greater that 4 litres per tank fill

the oil rings may have failed or there is a broken ring in the rebuilt motor

keep a close eye on that oil useage and hope you have a warrentry on the motor work done

a lot of issue i see this engine and other Mitsubishi engine 4clyder , was oil loss thru the distributor O-Ring that seals teh distributor in the cylinder head. It leaks in trace amounts onto the transmission and is a high issue for oil loss/consumption. Lots of people notice it when its too late.

I've noticed with these engines and hydroulic lifters that there is a lot of oil left in the upper cylinder when it is running and it takes some time to trickle back down to sump. Make sure you check the oil before stsrting engine in morning when cold to get an accurate reading. You may have burned a bit during brak in period and the rest may be trapped in oil gallieres, ect.

Yes yes in deeed. Thats why if yu look at the older engines and DOCH heads that there are less oil drain back ports , i wanna say 4 , and the new engine , like this one has 7 or 8.

Thanks alot. I'm keeping an eye out on it. The oil hasnt gone down as much now in the past 200 miles. The oil looks bit dark though. Oil was a bit thin, thought gass might be getting in to the oil. But the oil thickness hasn,t changeed. So i'm hoping gas is definitly not getting in the oil. This week end thought of draining and putting in new oil see if I can notice any changes.

Unfortunately, this seems somewhat common on these engines (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . I can't tell you for certain where it is going, but it is definitely is NOT leaking out externally! Or it would make a very noticeable mess!

We are ether burning it through the rings or through valve seals. My engines consumes a quart (~1 liter) every 400-500 miles. Believe it or not, that is with-in auto industry's standards! So you just have to keep an eye on it. Frankly, I do not care, as I am just waiting to install a 4G63T engine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) .

Also, to see the smoke in the tailpipe (I am talking about James Bond smoke screen), you must burning a quart every 100-200 miles, which explains why I do not see it.

The thing is that teh oil falls on the upper side of the transmisision bellhousing and spreads out , teh force of the air in the frunt radiator thuroughly spreads it out thus making it less obvious. Ive replaced many of the seals and have never had a comback for oil loss/consumption. Also stuck valves in aged PCV valves and clogged aoil drain skirts in the cam covers is also wut keeps lots of oil near the pcv and sucked into the engine, causing another issue with oil consumption
