Ok, so I've asked a lot of engine related questions over the nearly a year since joining the forum. But I really haven't spent all that much time trying to learn about modifying my suspension. So I'm going to just ask some questions and hope for the random free-for-all of answers to be useful. :-)

- What is the difference between lowering springs and coilovers?
- When a set of springs gives a number of inches, is that the amount lower the car is getting or the height off the ground the car will be?
- What is the purpose of a "performance" tie bar?
- What is the point of a rear strut bar on a FWD vehicle?
- What are sway bars for, and how do they affect performance?
- What is the difference between slotted, drilled and slotted, and regular rotors for disc brakes?
- Is there such a thing as a performance drum brake?
- What is a dampner kit for?
- What is camber exactly?

I admit to KIND OF knowing the answers to a lot of those questions, but I want to see what a more experienced person will answer with. I've also read about a lot of it on Wikipedia, and it didn't all sink in/make sense, so please don't just be all, "GO READ WIKIPEDIA LOLOL".

Thanks!
- Sam

a lowering spring is shorter too lower the car a coilover is a design of shock with a coil spring on top of it...
a performance tie bar i assume you mean the bar across the strut towers? it helps with cornering by load transfer
rear strut bar same idea cornering loads
sway bars same thing keeping vehicle level by affecting weight transfer during cornering keeping tires on ground is always a good idea
rotors...slotted and drilling are different ways to dissipate heat... heat not good for brakes...fluid can boil and u lose braking
but unless u plan on doing any full time road racing or otherwise loading your brakes all time most standard brakes do ok
performance drum brake...no drum brakes r not as efficient as discs
dampner kit for what?
camber is a alignment measurement...
there r 3 basic ones caster, camber and toe caster is an angle formed by the suspension viewed from the side...negative caster is forward of the car positive caster is rearward
camber is an angle looking down from the top of the tire...if it leans in towrds the car negative camber....if it leans out positive camber
and toe is an angle in whether the tire viewed from the front points in towards the car toe in or toe out..pointing outwards
camber and toe also r tire wearing angles and caster is primarily a handling angle...

Awesome.

With lowering springs, when it says, "Lowers car front - 1.8 inches Lowers car rear - 1.1 inches" Is that the inches lower than stock, or the total height?

Also, when I do springs, should I do shocks at the same time? I know I am going to do a camber kit regardless of how much/how little I lower my car, unless that is a bad idea?
