Guys,

I got a 2004 Galant DE 40,000 Miles. Everytime I depressed acceleration it makes a very loud noise. Example, compare with other vehicle like honda even if it is 1998 the engine is not giving too much noise. The sounds like the engine is beside me. Please help any tips or remedy on this... or is this natural?
But after it runs a few miles and shut off the engine and start again, it makes a silent sound...
WHat could it be? Please help. I wanna DIY if you have anything can share.

I have just read from mitsubishi manual from other model that abnormal noise can be coming out from the exhaust system. I'm not sure about this yet for based on what i've heard on my engine,
depressing accelerator create engine noise that i could actually here inside my car is coming at the center which might be the intake manifold.

For information of everyone and if there's any help i could get from anyone, i will appreciate it so much! below is a preview of what i'm checking on my exhaust system.

1) Check muffler and muffler to pipe connections, and gasket for any leak and missing components
2) Check pipe connection and catalytic converter and gasket and missing components.
3) Check pipe hanger.
4) Check heat protector and missing parts.

These are just some of the things i will check to find out why engine behaves like a rolling thunder when accelerator is depressed.

Guys,

I have found out what is the roaring sound every acceleration of gas pedal. The sound is cause by the RESONATOR which is mounted on top of the engine.
Is there any possibility to eliminate or minimize this noise? Just thinking, in lancer 2008 they do not have resonator like in galant... (know different model)
but what really is the purpose of this resonator on top of the engine aside from the air cleaner resonator below the air inlet duct opening.

Also, can please someone tell me what is this BOX in the attached picture? i have seen 2008 mitsubishi galant engine images through internet and this BOX is gone for 2008 onwards model.
Any help will be appreciated.
