Quick question for once: should I install a cross bar before I go get my alignment done, or afterwards?

As a followup if anyone cares to explain, is installing a cross bar as easy as removing the bolts atop the strut towers, putting it in place, and resecuring the bolts with the necessary torque?

a front upper strut bar isn't difficult to install at all. (you can check out the pics on mine), and yes, there is a necessary force that you have to torque them to (via torque bar): The front and rear have the same specs:

44 +- 5 N.m
or
33 +-3 lb.ft

per bolt, on each strut tower.

hope that helps =)

oh, and i'd wait after you get the alignment. It probably won't do anything in the first place at all, but i'd just wait, incase something goes wrong, you can't blame it on the strut bar (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I assume you have the RRM front strut bar? Or do you have a different one?

well for a "typical-lancer-owner", (not evo),anything that someone does to it (not including turbo) wont do "shit" for it, if you wanna get technical.

and go for an ebay one; extremely low cost, and it works fine

because your strut towers don't flex towards each other.
