I have a 1993 Galant and the roof is leaking. I assume it's from the rails that run from the front to the back of the roof above the doors. Is there some sort of weather stripping under them? I don't want to rip them up unless I need to since they are finished the same color as the car and I'd assume the paint would get damaged when I try and remove them. Is there some sort of seal under them?

If your car looks like a '91 or '92.. it does not have weatherstripping under the trim pieces.

Those are there to cover the weld between the side of the car & the roof.
To answer your question on removal, they are held on by clips and can be
removed as long as you gently pry on one side & twist/pull it off.

I would suspect sunroof seal or window seal as the culprit, unless you have a rust hole under one of those trim pieces?

Thanks for the reply,

There isn't a sun roof. Do you mean the window shield as a possible leak?

Is the water seem to come frum the driver side near the roof , or pass side rear or frunt. the door sill can cause a leak that will run along the side of the roof by the door when the seal gets bad or unsticks. Also if there is any rust area near the widescreen , at the top where the trin goes around it , if there is small rusted area , water can come in thru here and leak inside.

Take a dollar bill, and close it in the door with enough of it sticking out so you can grab it. Slide the bill front to back. There should be resistance, but you should be able to slide it. If there is no resistance in certain ares, that is most likely where your leak is. Sometimes it can be a simple matter of adjusting the door hinges, and latch post, to get it to close tightly enough.
