Hello all newbie to this forum I wonder if anyone with a 08-09 lancer drill out the baffles in the ugly OEM muffler to get some agressive sound out of it ? I dont care for the ricey sound out of the flow thu muffler, like the tanabe, flowmaster, hks, etc I dont drive hard just what to get a some grrr. out of the OEM setup. anyone experimented with this concept ? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)

Maybe i can get a 3 chamber high performance muffler and get my local exhaust shop to bend some pipes and cut a flange out and customize it ? anyone done this ?

Wow.... calling tanabe, flowmaster, hks, etc. ricey and asking about drilling wholes. That is too funny. I would never do this, just save up some money and get one that is made for the car.

Really, don't do it! This will be a terrible idea and will ruin your exhaust. If you really want the sound, try something that is reversible!!!

I agree, not a smart idea. Prob will sound like crap, will rust out the muffler real quick, will mess up the back pressure and flow, and... can anyone say ricer.
Tanabe and HKS do not have a ricey sound, not even close. An aggressive when wanted, quiet when needed, deep tone, is more like it.

Do not drill into your exhaust
1. you will not get the sound performance you will like,
2. you will lose additional back pressure, not improve flow, and in effect lose power
3. you risk creating a rust sitution

I advise getting an exhaust that sounds good to you (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) go to local car club meets in your area

so, you want to take a brand new car and turn it into a piece of crap by drilling holes in things?

good move! Maybe you can jack up the back end, hang some fuzzy dice, put flames on it, and add a "chain" steering wheel whilst your at it!

I live very close to some dumbass who removed the baffles (read: I'm positive he just destroyed with a long screwdriver) in his dual exhaust on a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. It's the stock exhaust, so unless he has a giant hole in both, then this is what he did.

Now it sounds exactly like a busted-ass Pontiac 6000 (there's one of those too that drives by every now and then and it's identical).

Plus he HAS to rev it just to get over some train tracks close by.. it is the most retarded sound in the world driven by the most retarded spikey haired punk in the world. His exhaust is going to have a date with two cans of expanding foam.

What you should do is just save up something like $130 bucks and buy a magnaflow universal muffler. I did and had it put on my car with some custom piping and it sounds great. See link below for a look at finish product.

Couldn't help but notice that you have Tipton county tags. You still live there? I live in Shelby county.

just take the muffler off because making holes in it will just make it sound like an old rusty sunfire

Leave it stock, because pretty much all 4 cylinders sound like awful, whiny trash when aftermarket crap is added to them.

enjoy a nice, quiet ride.

Do it...and see how rice its gonna sound. Bro, one of the reasons an exhaust sounds "ricy" is because its got the wrong flow for an engine. Holes in your exhaust are gonna do one of two things: give you an amazing sounding V8-like exhaust that backfires constantly -OR- sound like a homeless guy peeing on a wall. The latter is more likely the case.

But hey...VIVA LA EXHAUST LEAKS!
