hey man, I dont have a EX but I do own a 1979 lancer. I am also doing a 2.6l conversion or 2.0l. I heard u can use sigma 5 speed boxes but that might be incorrect so trial n error i guess.

good luck with your conversion

Yeah you can.i think the lancer like yours and the EX are pretty much the same when it comes to the fitment of the moters and stuff. The sigma 5speed goes in fine but the shift (in an EX) is about half and insh lower and when in 4th gear nocks against the tunnel. This is easy to fix with an angle grinder tho.
As far as i know, the sigma moters (4g52 and 4g54) bolt up fine on the cross member and no new mounts need to be made.
i also know for a fact that the 1600 gsl lancer EX 5sp box bolts up with the 2lt (4g52) moter, but with this setup i dont know how long the box would last.
pretty much the hardest thing to do is getting a custom drive shaft if using the sigma box.
There is also the 4g63 (non turbo) out of a l200 that can be used to, but you will hav to use the lancer 1800gsr or starion box, and these are hydrolic clutch :(

Ive been looking into wheather a l200 box would work. These are extremly strong and cable clutch as well.

Well hope that helps you abit. If you know of anything else then plzz let me know

Thanx

Hey ya guys.. Im new to the forum... I own a 1982 EX Lancer GSL. I got it off a uncle but i think its like 1300. but its 5 speed. maybe it had a 1600 though not sure.

im thinking of dropping a sigma motor in as well. but gta look into it further. i heard the sigmas go in pretty easy if u have the 5 speed version although the boxes are a bit fragile... mines just been reconditioned after it dropped out a few months back... thats only cuz my uncle been driving it and he thinks its a rally car :P.. but yeh i live in Auckland NZ and theres a Black EX lancer going around with a Sigma GSR Turbo motor in it. hell knws how he got that in there though??

hey there!!
Great to see a fellow NZ exer

Im half way in the middle of putting a sigma moter and gearbox into my lancer.

So far its gone ok except the moter didnt line up with one of the engine mounts. But i think thats bcoz mine was a 1200 and the cross member is different than that in the 1600.
Im using the 4g63 sigma 2lt moter as they are newer and just better. Its fromt a gj sigma
So far it looks like i can use the sigma cross member, then it should all bolt up sweet.I know i guy that had a 1600ex with the 5speed gearbox and he blew his moter and then he just put a sigma 2000cc in place of the 1600.All bolted up sweet, but its about a year later and his gearbox is really suffering.Thats why i am going with using the sigma gearbox. The only thing is that i think i will hav to hav my drive shaft shorted.
Im gonna be using the standard lancer diff.
God knows how long that will last :)

other nz exers, im not alone anymore :D

I have been thinking about tidying up my lancer for a long time now. We got her from the original first owner and she had only put 30'000 on the clock. Its a brilliant car, but my sister with uni and all has really taken it out of her. She doesnt like 100km/h. Needs another speed in the box aswell. so if anyone has completed a conversion, please post up what you did.

what sort of conversionare you wanting to do?

Ive just put a 2lt sigma motor into mine (4g63) and the sigma gearbox. All bolts i and there are no problams at all.

Is a super easy conversion. Can use either the RWD or the earlier FWD engines. But id you use the fwd engine you need to use the RWD intake adn exhorst manifolds but thats all.

Ive just fitted Ventilated front brakes and GSR struts.Handles VERY well

Hi, I own a 1982 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR (A174A), It's a 1600...
Can I bolt an Eclipse 4G63 non turbo to my tranny?
And if someone know where can I find the EX 2000 Turbo front bumper to buy, since my car is almost unique in my country.

Cheers!

I have a 1985 lancer, running a rebuilt 4g12 (1400) in it right now, with a 4 fwd. eventually I would like to put the 4g63 in it. is it possible to use a front wheel drive 4g63 with a rwd gsr gear box? or are there differences in the block that would prevent such a match-up.
Glad to see others here with the good old rear wheel drives :) , we have alot of em down here in trinidad, but they are mostly not apreciated much. Not sure if you ever heard or saw the SKF lancer. That car is from down here too B)

good luck finding a EX2000 bumper. The only really came out over in europe, try the lancerregister, theres alot of guys with them on there. It would be hard to get one but it would cost alot in the shipping!!

Im not 100% sure about what gearboxes will go with a fwd block over in you country.I know over her in NZ the fwd blocks bolt up with the galant/sigma gearboxes from the non-tu4bo ones. But since yours is a GSR i figure it has a hydrolic clutch maybe. The best thing to do would be get a motor and then just get a gearbox outa any RWD mitsi from the age of 1980- to about 1985 and you should be fine. They go together like lego!!.

Good luck all, great to see the mighti mitsis still goin!!

Cools, that is exactly what I wanted to know, thanks! .I don't have the gsr gear box yet so I can still find a rwd box, perhaps out of a galant. Doubt my box from the 1400 would work. No probs, there are lots of galants out here in the scrap yards :)

dont know about your 1400 box, we never had the 1400cc lancers here, only the 1200,1600 and 1800turbo, but chances are that it will bolt up fine.

Yeah MSN would be all good, mine is :

i have a 81 lancer ex. im wanting to do a conversion for my lancer. i have thought about 2L sigma n sigma 5 speed but wanting to go down the lines of Cordia Turbo, GSR, or 1600 DOHC. i know 1600 Dohc are mostly fwd if not all. but what would be the easiest turbo conversion and what is needed to be done?

Cheers.

Hi guys, my name is michael i'm from Barbados. I'm new to the post as well as the forum. I was reading the post and i see alot of kool conversions that has me thinking, i'm glad i'm not the only person in the world that is doing a transplant or conversion i have a 84 lancer gl with the 8v 1800 4g37 engine and the gsr 5speed GB and the ex2000 turbo front bumper :) but i want to do a transplant and i was going with the 4g93t galant vr4 2.0 turbo engine out of a race car we have here, but me and my bro are rebuilding it so i cant ise the engine anymore so i'm thinking about just going 4g93 with some toyota levin 20v4age ITBs on it and aftermarket management. so let me know what u guys think about the idea and nice to meet all of you my messenger address is michaellicorish292@hotmail.com or rml_race_team@yahoo.com
