Really clean black VR4 with the 2.0 turbo AWD, #505 of 2000 in US, 66,750 mi.

Has a weird intermittent electrical problem like it's loosing + battery power to the Ignition. All the dash lights and tach flicker, the main MFI relay by the glove box clicks randomly, and the engine misfires. It also does it with key on engine off, and you can hear MFI stuff under the hood clicking like the EACV.

Doesn't do it very often like 15 sec every 30 minutes. Checked everything I can think of, like fuse box connections. looked at the main relay inside, the ECU, both fuse boxes. power and ground wires. Nothing, no corrosion, looks like it's been garaged its whole life. Was thinking ignition switch maybe but wiggling the key has no effect.

Ends up it was the ECU, put it in the freezer and after it warmed back up it was acting up more.

inspected the circuit board with a magnifying glass and found a small burned section

replaced ECU, problem fixed.

surprised it was still available, $1200 shipped from Japan. Another 1991, a Mirage they didn't stock the ECU anymore.

Yes , an ECU will do that also , as i put in another similar post. usually tho most they will cause no start , irratic misfires etc.
