Depends how you're driving it, if you're racing it, shift as high as you feel comfortable shifting (4-5k rpm's). Casual around town driving, I usually shift around 2.5k-3k.

i run this as a general rule for all my cars. i run them AS CLOSE to 2000 r'spm (i say r'spm because rpms means revolution per minutes and that doesn't make sense)
but yeah, about 2000 for cruising is a good general rule. so if your at 1600 your probably needing to shift down. at 2500 probably shift up.

Revolutions Per Minute

you don't use an apostrophe with abbreviations, especially when the word in the phrase doesn't even CONTAIN an apostrophe. Where is a dunce smiley when you need it? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

R P M

Revolutions per minute.

For example, what RPM should I shift at. There is absolutly NO "s" at the end of that.

whether or not the words in the abbreviation are singular or plural, the abbreviation only uses the first letter in each word (RE: RPM). And besides, your first usage, contained an apostrophe... which does not EXIST in the word to begin with... you just added it in there all on your own. revolutions does not have an apostrophe.

Do you not understand basic 5th grade grammar?

i make a rule to shift at 6000rpm when going hard because any higher than that is pointless because the peak power has already passed

otherwise for normal driving between 2000-3000rpm

although seeing as you have the SL you might wanna experiment whats best for you

shifting is a fluid thing and depends on the circumstances, like what gears im shifting between, what speed im accelerating to ultimately, whether or not i have the AC on,....

for instince if im only getting up to 40 on a road where i know im gonna have to stop at a light before too long, i'll shift at 2500. But, if i'm accelerating up to 80 getting on the highway on ramp, 3500. I'f im teaching someone a lesson, 5500 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

but the quick answer is 2500 revs.
