The oil cap seems to be held by a screw, but when I twist the screw, which is easy enough - I can see that the screw head is becoming damaged. I take it the screw needs to be removed in order to take the oil cap off and fill with oil or am I missing something?

Any help would really be appreciated - thanks very much!

YU do not remove the screw. Wut are yu doin? Yu juss twist the cap off. Sumtimes its tough but yu twist the cap. If yu unscrew the screw yu will unscrew the cap lock spring and arm, and it will fall into the valvetrain. Juss twist the cap off. I see why its an embarrasing question.

Thanks for coming to my rescue once again KiT TeUnG 2549! That's much appreciated. I'll leave well alone.

Cheers.

No big deal. Sumtimes the oil filler caps are a bit tough. But a firm turn counter clockwise should open it up.
