Hi everyone I have a 93 KR verada and it has recently started playing up abit!

Ok first of all after driving for say 5 mins at normal 50-60kmp speeds the alarm light comes on,
And secondly I seem to have a power surge of some sort , now how I noticed this was, I was coming home one night and noticed my headlights dimming and then going brighter, as were the lights in the cluster, on further inspection I noticed the car making a short surging sound , this sounds seems to be the problem for the electrical powerloss, Now I followed the noise to what looks like the fuel pump ( a black hose line going into it with a few wire connections ) sitting on top of the GEARBOX (when looking down into engine from drivers side) these lines run to a regulator or something! Any help on what this mysterious object is would be great and what would cause it to make this sound , This car has been great to me it is immaculate and never givin me trouble !! Thanks in advance Trizmo

the "alarm" light signifies a failure of the electronic suspension system. Usually, it wasnt able to maintain a correct ride height.
generally a failed airbag at one or more struts is to blame.

the item in the picture is a compressor for the aforementioned electronic suspension system.

To a fact teh above mentioned is correct. But as these models and also as my model Galant and also other models as Verada and Diamantes with adaptive suspension adjusted "on the fly" ive seen on sum models power surges cause irratic failing in adjustment. The "ALARM" light not always signified failure , but signaled adjustment "in ride" in most cases it is noted that teh driver slow speed or stop for the adaptive system to adjust properly , in most cases when heavier than normal weight loads were permitted.

In the fuse panel in the bonnet, i have seen a small break sumtimes in the large fuses that control electronic power throughout the vehicle , where it may be barely contacting inside to which its not fully blown and causing loss of power while being demanded and causing an issue with the electronics in the car, as lights dimming , active control system operating erratically etc.

In most cases were due to corrosive battery acid following along the stream of power wiring back to the fuse and power distribution located in the bonnet

99 out of 100 its a blown airbag.

aside from replacing compressors, its pretty much the only thing that routinely failed. Of course, it could be anything. But its PROBABLY a blown airbag.

guys you are champs , from what you have both explained it sounds correct! I noticed that when the alarm light is on it locks out any control over the suspension,
The surging seems to have stopped hence the lights arnt dimming anymore ,, but the alarm light still comes on from time to time.... Thankyou very much for clearing this up for me ... I also moderate a holden website (vncommodres.com) and usualy have no trouble shooting a car problem but these mitsi's are a whole different thing alll together.. I will have a look over the fuses and get that suspension checked out .... thanks again guys!
